Delfin vs Atletico Nacional
Competition: Copa Libertadores
Date: 16 May 2018
Kick-off: 00:15 CET
Delfín beat Colo-Colo 2-0 in Chile(!), then lost 2-1 at home, both teams are on four points from as many group games, but the Manta side are fourth in the table, because what matters the most is not the goal difference in the games between two teams that are level on points, but their overall goal difference in all group matches, and there, Colo-Colo are at -2, while Delfín are at -3. Having written all that, the timing couldn’t be better for Delfín, and that’s because they are hosting a team that… “can afford” to lose this game, plus, they have a huge match coming up, in Colombia’s championship, rightfully distracting them. Delfín lost 2-1 at Emelec last weekend, they are 6th in the table in Ecuador’s championship. Their last Libertadores group game is at Bolívar, next week.
Atlético Nacional’s coach, Jorge Almirón, said after his team’s defeat at Deportivo Cali last weekend, that he wants to see his side qualify in both competitions this week. He implied that he will field a very competitive team against Delfín, but didn’t really say he won’t rotate it. Atlético Nacional are on nine points from four Libertadores group matches, four more than second-placed Bolívar, five more than Colo-Colo and Delfín, plus, they have the last game at home, next week, against Colo-Colo. In other words, they can… afford to lose in Ecuador, it won’t be the end of the world for them. In their championship on the other hand, that 1-0 defeat in Cali last weekend has left them with their back against the wall. They are hosting Deportivo on Saturday, and it’s a “do or die” match. Return leg, quarterfinal, they can’t afford to drop the ball there, or else, the regular season leaders will fall victims to a massive surprise. With all these in mind, I seriously-seriously doubt Almirón will include his best possible 11 in his starting lineup in Manta.

Delfin vs Atletico Nacional: Prediction
I’m backing the hosts to earn at least a draw, expecting Atlético Nacional first to play with many reserves, and second, their players not to… die trying to win a game they don’t really need to win.
Delfin vs Atletico Nacional: Betting Tips
Delfín’s double chance is at 1.60. Their win in “draw no bet” pays 2.20.
