Deportivo Cali vs Santa Fe
Competition: Copa Sudamericana
Date: 31 October 2018
Kick-off: 01:45 CET
Deportivo Cali were considered outsiders last week in Bogotá, in the first leg, but I backed them to earn at least a draw, and they did, 1-1. Actually, they were the ones who took the lead, in the 32nd minute, scoring that all too precious away goal. On Saturday they hosted Jaguares de Córdoba in their championship. It was a game they had to win, and they did, 4-0, despite playing with many-many reserves. To be more specific, only two guys who started against Santa Fe last week, were in the first 11 for the match versus Jaguares, and one of those two was the goalkeeper. They were sort of lucky to be hosting one of the weakest teams in the league. Deportivo are 9th in the table of Colombia’s championship, with two matches left. To play in the final stages, they need to finish in the top-8. They are two points behind Rionegro and Atlético Nacional, the teams sitting 8th and 7th respectively in the table at the moment.
Santa Fe are 10th in the table, one point below Deportivo Cali, so their chances of finishing in the top-8 are even less than those of their Copa Sudamericana rivals. On Saturday they visited Leones, the team that is sitting at the bottom of the table, and Santa Fe won 0-2, despite playing mostly with reserves. Just like in Deportivo’s case, only two players who started last week, were in the first 11 to face Leones. That was actually Santa Fe’s first victory in five matches. Thirty hours before kick-off, it looked like the Bogotá side would play this match without fans supporting them from the stands. The mayor of Palmira, the city within the borders of which Deportivo’s stadium stands (outside Cali), decided not to allow “barras” of the visiting team to enter the stadium, fearing ugly scenes between them, the police, and local fans.

Deportivo Cali vs Santa Fe: Head to head Stats
Three wins for Deportivo, one for Santa Fe, and a draw, in the last five games between these two in Cali.
Deportivo Cali vs Santa Fe: Prediction
The result of the first leg obliges Santa Fe to take certain risks, as they absolutely must score. The hosts are considered favorites to win, but the fact that they don’t necessarily need to, makes me very hesitant to bet on them. I don’t see a winner in this game, I don’t see goals either, unless Deportivo score once, late, on a counterattack, when Santa Fe will be playing their last card to score themselves.
Deportivo Cali vs Santa Fe: Betting Tips
My main tip is draw alone, at 2.95. “Under 1.5” is at 2.35. “Under 2.5 goals” is way less risky, but is not paying more than 1.45.
