Deportivo La Guaira vs Atletico Nacional
Competition: Copa Libertadores
Date: 8 February 2019
Kick-off: 00:30 CET
I wonder if any Liverpool fans watched (either on TV or online) the game between Real Garcilaso and Deportivo La Guaira last week, especially what happened in added time… The Venezuelan side were losing 2-0, they had gotten outplayed by Real Garcilaso practically in the entire game, but one of the hosts’ most experienced players slipped and fell as he tried to kick the ball, and that single mistake cost Real Garcilaso the qualification. José Balza executed perfectly, made it 2-1, and that goal made all the difference, as La Guaira had won 1-0 in Venezuela, a week earlier. Watching the game, my first thought when the ball went in was, Steven Gerrard, Liverpool. La Guaira have played four official matches in 2019, have lost three (two in their championship). But that one game they won, at home over Real Garcilaso, has them in the second qualifying round of the Copa Libertadores. Coach Daniel Farías is expected to have Mario Santilli, José Velásquez, Diego Luna, Edwin Peraza, Yohan Cumana, Juan Carlos Azócar, Arles Flores, Francisco La Mantía, Jesús Lugo, José Balza and Luis Carlos Cabezas in the starting lineup. Midfielder Vicente Suanno is unavailable, as he got sent-off last week in Peru.
Atlético Nacional, winners of the Copa Libertadores in 1989 and 2016, are… serious about doing great this season. For them, being in the group stage is… self-evident. Reaching the last 16 is they real bare minimum this season, at least that’s where they have set the bar. They signed super experienced Argentinian striker Hernán Barcos, who spent last season at Cruzeiro, as well as Uruguayan midfielder Pablo Ceppelini. Brazilian Paulo Autuori is their coach. They should start with José Fernando Cuadrado, Gilberto García, Daniel Bocanegra, Nicolás Hernández, Deiver Machado, Brayan Rovira, Sebastián Gómez, Jeison Lucumí, Juan Pablo Ramírez, Yerson Candelo and Hernán Barcos. Last weekend, they beat Jaguares de Córdoba 1-0 at home. They are on seven points from three matches in Colombia’s championship, having kept a clean sheet in all three games.

Deportivo La Guaira vs Atletico Nacional: Head to head Stats
La Guaira have hosted Atlético Nacional once before, in 2014; it was a Copa Sudamericana first round match, that ended in a 1-1 draw.
Deportivo La Guaira vs Atletico Nacional: Prediction
A draw with goals wouldn’t be a bad result for Atlético Nacional, and that keeps me from betting on their victory, despite considering them favorites.
Deportivo La Guaira vs Atletico Nacional: Betting Tips
Atlético Nacional’s clean sheet is my main tip, at 2.08. My second choice is the visitors’ double chance combined with “under 2.5 goals”, at 1.87.
