Deportivo Lara vs Emelec
Competition: Copa Libertadores
Date: 8 March 2019
Kick-off: 03:00 CET
Deportivo Lara finished second last season in Venezuela’s championship, earning a direct ticket to the Copa Libertadores group stage. Last year they started with a big win at home over Independiente, later on they beat Millonarios as well at home, but they lost their other four matches (twice to Corinthians), and six points were obviously not good enough to have them in the top two of the group. Last weekend they drew 0-0 at Atlético Venezuela. Six game weeks into the new season, they have the best defence in Venezuela’s championship, having conceded three goals. Despite that, they sit just 11th(!) in the table, I repeat, 11th, the team that have conceded less goals than any other. Their problem has been… irregular scoring. They netted three times against Deportivo Anzoátegui, two against Monagas (both times at home), but they’ve failed to score in half their games thus far.
Just like Deportivo Lara, Emelec finished second last season in their country, Ecuador, a position good enough to earn them a direct ticket to the Copa Libertadores group stage. Last year they started by drawing 1-1 at Santa Fe, in Bogotá, a decent result, but that point they earned in Colombia was meant to be their only one in the group(!). Five defeats followed, in which they managed to score just twice. They have looked… unreliable at the start of the new season; they beat Aucas on the road, lost to Fuerza Amarilla at home, lost at Deportivo Cuenca, and last weekend they went back to winning, 1-0, over Técnico Universitario. They either score first and win, or concede first and lose. Plus, it’s worth mentioning, in both their victories, they opened the scoring from the penalty spot.

Deportivo Lara vs Emelec: Head to head Stats
No history between these two.
Deportivo Lara vs Emelec: Prediction
Emelec are considered relatively clear favorites to win the game. Personally, I like the hosts’ chances of at least avoiding defeat.
Deportivo Lara vs Emelec: Betting Tips
Lara’s double chance is at 1.80. In a game with two teams that I consider hard to trust, 1.80 for a double chance feels good enough to me to avoid risking further with something else.
