Estonia vs Belgium
Competition: Europe World Cup Qualifying
Date: 9 June 2017
Kick-off: 20:45 CET
March’s 0-0 draw in Cyprus gave Estonia something to be content with, and the fact that three days later they beat Croatia at home in a friendly game (no matter if the visitors were missing most of their regulars), made the few football fans in the country even more proud of their national team. Before that, they had suffered a defeat, heavy even by their own standards, in Belgium, a humiliating 8-1. I doubt Estonians expect to get anything out of this game. It will be interesting to see though, how they will do against the team that acted… ruthless last time they met. Will they see it as an extra motive to give the Belgians a run for their money, or will they look… scared, terrified at the idea of suffering another humiliating defeat, this time at home?
In their last game, back in March, against Greece, Belgium realized that they are not that safe as, maybe, they thought they are, at the top of the table. If Romelu Lukaku had not acted as… Romelu Lukaku in added time, scoring a truly impressive goal, Belgium would have lost, not just the game, but also the top spot. In this specific game they should win, no matter if Eden Hazard got seriously injured in training a few days ago. Belgium have one of the best rosters in Europe, and it would be a massive surprise if they dropped points against Estonia, especially this Estonia.
Estonia vs Belgium: Head-to-head Stats
Estonia have hosted Belgium twice before, and actually they’ve beaten them once, in a World Cup qualifier, something more than ten years ago, a huge result for the Baltic nation’s football.
Estonia vs Belgium: Prediction
I insist that Belgium should win, I really cannot imagine this Estonia avoiding defeat. In my mind, the only real question is how many goals the Belgians will score. Against the Czech Republic on Monday, in a friendly game, they scored twice, missing a number of chances to make their 2-1 win even bigger.
Estonia vs Belgium: Tips
Belgium’s win pays just 1.16. Belgium-Belgium for halftime/full time is at 1.44, still low. To double my money, I would bet on Belgium to score more in the second half, rather than the first. This pays exactly 2.00. Belgium have scored most of their goals in the qualifiers in the second half, and in this specific game I expect the hosts to just… give up after the 60th minute.
