Estudiantes vs Lanus
Competition: Argentina Superliga
Date: 1 December 2018
Kick-off: 21:10 CET
Estudiantes hadn’t lost in six matches, Rosario Central hadn’t won in eight (playing very poorly), but… that’s football, Central won 2-1 last weekend at home, ruling on the field during most of the game. Truth is, Estudiantes were left with a mountain to climb late in the first half, when defensive midfielder Iván Gómez got sent-off, being shown a second yellow card. The La Plata side were already losing 1-0, and then had to turn the situation around playing with 10 men. They conceded again in the 80th minute, got a goal back in the 86th, but they didn’t really threaten Central after that. They are 15th in the Superliga table, on 16 points from 13 matches. As hosts, they have two wins in a row, over Newell’s Old Boys and River Plate (1-0, in both games). On another note, a few days ago they signed 23-year-old Colombian winger/striker Edwar López, on loan from Atlético Huila, for one year. He’ll be eligible to play late January, after the long break the Superliga teams will soon take. Estudiantes will not pay anything to his Colombian club, but on the other hand, they don’t have the right to keep him if they decide to, once his loan deal is over.
Another… paradox; Lanús hosted Independiente last weekend, a team that had been playing great football and earning positive results for weeks, but somehow, El Granate came up on top, winning the game 1-0, thanks to a Gastón Lódico goal in the 80th minute. The 20-year-old central midfielder received the ball from 17-year-old(!) winger Pedro De La Vega, who did half the job for the ball to go in. These two are not the only youngsters who play practically week in-week out at Lanús. The club are counting on them to help the team return to the level enjoyed for years, before this season’s slump. Lanús are just 24th in the Superliga table, on no more than 11 points from 13 matches. Away from home, they have three draws in a row, with Atlético Tucumán(!), Tigre, and Banfield, three matches in which they conceded just one goal.

Estudiantes vs Lanus: Head to head Stats
Four wins for Estudiantes and one for Lanús in the last five matches with the La Plata side as hosts.
Estudiantes vs Lanus: Prediction
Estudiantes are considered favorites to win, but I wouldn’t bet against Lanús this weekend.
Estudiantes vs Lanus: Betting Tips
Estudiantes haven’t conceded in their last two home games, against good-good teams. Lanús have scored just once in their last five away games. I like the chances of Estudiantes’ clean sheet, at 2.25. “No” on “both teams to score” is at 1.66. You can tell, I trust them enough to avoid conceding, to not lose, but I have my doubts regarding them scoring and winning.
