Estudiantes vs Patronato
Competition: Argentina Superliga
Date: 9 February 2019
Kick-off: 21:10 CET
Estudiantes lost 3-0 at San Martín San Juan last weekend, without really showing up on the pitch. In 90 minutes, they created one real chance to score, playing second fiddle to the hosts throughout the game. They looked unprepared, both tactically and mentally, so… no wonder they lost so easily. San Martín scored their third goal in the 71st minute, and after that, they simply… managed the situation. Estudiantes are 18th, on 18 points from 17 matches. Feels like the only positive thing they can expect in 2019 is the return to their home, La Plata, where the works are going well (at their stadium). They haven’t won in their last seven Superliga matches, drawing in four, and losing three. Their last win was a 1-0 over River Plate, early November.
If you’re following Argentina’s football, you don’t need to be an expert to know that Patronato are not a better team than Atlético Tucumán. So, how did they beat them 3-0 last weekend? Because Patronato looked perfectly prepared, both mentally and tactically, while Atlético Tucumán’s players looked like… ghosts roaming the field. Germán Berterame’s goal in the fourth minute sort of set the tone, Patronato scored again before half time, and a penalty kick in the 63rd minute put the game to bed. Two weeks ago, Patronato were on just 10 points from 15 matches. A shocking 1-3 triumph at River Plate and last weekend’s 3-0 stroll in the park hosting Atlético Tucumán improved Patronato’s situation in the “promedio” table. They remain below the relegation line, but in 23rd, right below that line, within striking distance from 22nd-placed San Martín San Juan.

Estudiantes vs Patronato: Head to head Stats
Estudiantes beat Patronato 1-0 two years ago, the first time – ever – they hosted them.
Estudiantes vs Patronato: Prediction
Estudiantes are considered clear favorites to win, but… they are a team for whom nothing is working after the restart of the season, and they are hosting a rival who celebrated two huge victories the last two weeks. Obviously, Estudiantes could bounce back, but under the circumstances, I think it’s worth betting on the outsiders.
Estudiantes vs Patronato: Betting Tips
Patronato’s double chance is at 1.95, my main tip. The same combined with “under 3.5 goals” pays 2.30.
