Exeter vs Ulster
Competition: European Champions Cup Rugby
Date: 15 January 2017
Kick-off: 18:30 CET
Ulster have a real battle on their hands with the French sides just above them, but having beaten Clermont, who top the group, and being equal on points with Castres, they will believe they can do it with just two games to go, but they do have to beat a revived Exeter who are also still in the hunt.
While Exeter are bottom of their group, they have six points and second spot, and a qualifying spot, is only three points away which is where Ulster and Castres find themselves. More in the favour of the English side is that they have had a bit of revival in the domestic competition, climbing up into third after beating Bath. They have a mountain of work to get through, but with two games left, they can make a go at it, but they have to beat the Irish side Ulster to keep their hopes alive.
Ulster’s greatest moment was when they welcomed the seemingly unbeatable Clermont and piped them in a great and high scoring game, it was a real signal of intent from the Irish side. Ulster are equal on points with Castres, who have to face Clermont, and they will feel that if they can beat Exeter here, and Clermont succeed, as expected, their final game will be much more routine as they aim for qualification in a season where they probably deserve to try their luck in the play-offs.
Exeter vs Ulster: Previous encounter
Exeter will feel confident about facing Ulster, as when they traveled to Ireland the game ended within a point as the home side won the game 19-18 thanks to a Paddy Jackson drop-goal. Exeter’s Gareth Steenson also got a drop, and five penalties to try and chase Ulster.
Exeter vs Ulster: Prediction
A Real tough one to call as the last game was so tight, but the advantage has to be with Exeter – not only because they are at home, but they are also a different team from the start of this competition. Exeter should win this one, but it will be a good battle, as Ulster won’t go down without a fight.
Exeter vs Ulster: Tips
There won’t be much in this game, much like the first time they met, so bet on the winning margin to be within seven points to give the losers a bonus point.
