Exeter vs Wasps
Competition: Aviva Premiership Rugby
Date: 12 February 2017
Kick-off: 14:00 CET
Potentially a season defining game for Exeter as they have worked their way to the top three, after being much lower down the og in the early season, but now they face the top of the log Wasps – but they do have the home ground advantage.
Wasps managed to work their way on top of the log at the expense of Saracens mostly thanks to their bonus points that they have picked up along the way. A team that loves to attack, the Wasps have claimed the most four-try bonus points out of any team this season and continue to win games with their all out attack. In 13 games, they have won 11, and lost two giving them a total of 51 points, which is in reach of Saracens who are below them with 48, making this game all the more important.
Exeter alo recently took their chance to make a charge for the top of the table as their game against Bath a few back was the reason they overtook the then third placed South-West side. Exeter looked very poor in the early stages of the competition, but as things have gone on and they have settled, they have climbed the log and look like a threat they have been known to be over the previous few seasons. However, Wasps are still favourites for the League, along with the chasing Saracens, and there will be no thought of Wasps dropping points even if they are on the road.
Exeter vs Wasps: Head-to-Head Stats
Exeter have not been involved in the Premier League for too long, so it is not surprising to see that they have a short history against a settled side like Wasps. In 14 encounters however, Exeter have the advantage with 10 wins, compared to the four wins for Wasps.
Exeter vs Wasps: Prediction
Wasps do look like a team that could take it all the way on the back of their sparkling attack, however, Exeter are the kind of team that could blunt and frustrate the traveling Wasps, like they have been seen to do before. Still, Wasps have a host of stars, despite the England internationals missing, and the firepower they have should see them home in a gritty game.
Exeter vs Wasps: Tips
Even with Wasps being an all out attack team, they can grind out a win and against Exeter at home, they will probably have to do it. It should be a low scoring game with less than 40 points between them.
