Faroe Islands vs Switzerland
Competition: Europe World Cup Qualifying
Date: 9 June 2017
Kick-off: 20:45 CET
The Faroe Islands are… one goal away from calling their campaign in these qualifiers a success. They did draw at home to Hungary, definitely a good result, they won in Latvia, a great result, but they failed to score in Andorra in their last game, they were held to a 0-0 draw, and somehow this… reminded everyone that the national team of the little island nation have made steps forward, but have definitely not reached the point of winning ‘weird’ games away from home on a steady basis. The islanders are just enjoying football, their home games are a reason to party, and if they manage to earn a surprise point against Switzerland, the party will last a bit longer.
Switzerland can be proud of sharing something in common with Germany, they are the only two teams in these qualifiers that have five wins in as many games so far, that’s really something, especially considering how disappointing they looked last summer in France’s Euro 2016. It should be noted though that after beating Portugal at home and Hungary away, their performances haven’t been similarly impressive. In Andorra, they won by the slightest of margins, 2-1. Same at home against Latvia, 1-0. Even the 2-0 as hosts versus the Faroe Islands cannot be called an impressive result. All in all, they get the job done, they have 15 points, and as long as they don’t drop the ball against smaller teams, they will remain favorites to finish above Portugal, and get the direct ticket to Russia 2018. A few days ago, they beat Belarus 1-0 in a friendly game, in yet another match they didn’t exactly… awe anyone with their football.
Faroe Islands vs Switzerland: Head-to-head Stats
The Faroe Islands have hosted Switzerland twice before, losing both times.
Faroe Islands vs Switzerland: Prediction
The fact that Switzerland’s win pays just 1.16, gives you a clear idea how big a favorite they are considered to pick up all three points. Personally, as in the case of Andorra vs Hungary, I’m backing the underdog to shock Europe by getting a super unexpected draw. To be fully honest, I don’t expect both games to end in a draw, but I can’t help feeling that one of the two will produce a shock result, so I would bet on both draws, expecting to more than triple my money if just one of the two games end in a draw indeed.
Faroe Islands vs Switzerland: Tips
Draw pays 6.50. I would expect more, but still, it’s 6.50. As previously mentioned, if I bet on a draw in this game, I would go for a draw in Andorra vs Hungary as well, for reasons already explained. If you bet the same money on both draws, no matter which one comes good, you more than triple your money. Unless both Hungary and Switzerland win, in which case my “one of the two will end in a draw” hunch will have been proven worthy of laughing at.
