Fenerbahce vs Benfica
Competition: UEFA Champions League
Date: 14 August 2018
Kick-off: 20:00 CET
Given how the game went last week in Lisbon, Fenerbahce should be feeling glad they left Portugal having lost “only” 1-0. They finished the match on just four attempts (Benfica had 18!), only two on target (Benfica had six), and generally they played second fiddle on the pitch for most of the game, if not its… entirety. It was their first official game of the season, and… it showed. On Saturday, they beat Bursaspor at home, 2-1, coming from behind. Actually, they conceded in the first half, and were 2-1 up before going to the dressing room at halftime. Again, they didn’t… inspire much confidence, and the fact that they didn’t score in Lisbon makes them super vulnerable. If they concede once at home, they will be obliged to search for at least three goals.
Benfica’s win was a rather self-evident choice last week, not paying more than 1.55. My riskier suggestions involved more goals, not necessarily from Benfica alone. The Portuguese side scored the only goal of the match in the 69th minute, and… given that things didn’t go for them – offensively – as well as they hoped, the fact that they finished the match without conceding was really something. Benfica can easily score in Istanbul, making things almost impossible for Fener. Last weekend they beat Vitória Guimarães 3-2 at home, in their championship. Pizzi scored three goals(!) in the first 38 minutes(!!), but Benfica conceded twice after the 76th minute, and got… worried in the last ones, threatened with a shocking 3-3 draw.

Fenerbahce vs Benfica: Head to head Stats
Fener have hosted Benfica twice in the past; They beat them 1-0 in 1975, and then again in 2013, by the same score, in a Europa League semifinal. Both times though, they got eliminated.
Fenerbahce vs Benfica: Prediction
I seriously doubt Benfica will lose the game, but I’m very hesitant to back them to win, mostly because they don’t need to.
Fenerbahce vs Benfica: Betting Tips
“Both teams to score”, at 1.80, is my main tip, going up to 2.30 if combined with “over 2.5 goals”. I expect Benfica to score, but the hosts to send the ball in at least once as well, and the third goal to come from either side.
