Flamengo vs Chapecoense
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 9 September 2018
Kick-off: 02:00 CET
Flamengo are in trouble… From leaders just a few weeks ago, they went second, third, fourth, and… keep falling. Midweek, they visited Internacional, another top-4 team, and they lost 2-1, despite Vitinho’s beautiful strike and goal, his first after his arrival at the club, a few weeks ago. Maurício Barbieri made some changes, trying to… freshen his team up, but Inter are just… too effective this season, and it’s no accident that after 23 game weeks they are the new Série A leaders. Vitinho’s goal was one of the few positives for Flamengo; he needed a goal, he got it, he should look more relaxed and… productive in the next games. Remember, Flamengo are about to host Corinthians in the Copa do Brasil, first leg. When they returned to Rio de Janeiro from Porto Alegre, police made sure to send extra forces to the airport, fearing that angry fans would try create problems.
Chapecoense are in… much bigger trouble than Flamengo. Midweek, they drew 1-1 with Paraná in Curitiba. They played against the weakest side in the league, a direct rival in the fight to avoid relegation, they were desperate to pick up all three points, but… no. Even that point they earned, they actually… salvaged it, scoring the equalizer in the 87th minute. After the game, Guto Ferreira and several of his players told reporters that they had played against Paraná, as well as against the referee, who, they feel, was against them, and influenced the result of the match. Chape had lost four games in a row before traveling to Curitiba. They are on 22 points from 22 matches (they have one in hand), below the relegation line. On another note, the players asked the club to allow former captain Wellington Paulista to return to training, but the board of directors decided to stick to Guto Ferreira’s decision to exclude him (he has been training with the youth team for days now).

Flamengo vs Chapecoense: Prediction
Flamengo are about to host Corinthians in a massive Copa do Brasil match, but… they simply can’t afford to drop points in this match. Plus, the game versus Corinthians is on Wednesday, and no trip will be necessary.
Flamengo vs Chapecoense: Betting Tips
A simple Flamengo win is at just 1.40. I’m going against the odds, expecting at least three goals. “Over 2.5 goals” is at 2.15, and combined with Fla’s victory it pays an even better 2.40.
