Flamengo vs Chapecoense
Competition: Brazilian Serie A
Date: 23 June 2017
Kick-off: 02:00 CET
Against Fluminense at Maracana, I backed Flamengo to score at least twice, and it may have taken them up until the game’s added time, but they did deliver, earning a 2-2 draw. Fla now have five points in their last three matches, having won at home, and drawn twice on the road. For another team this would be great, for Flamengo it’s considered not good enough, and they spent the last two days, coach and members of the board of directors, trying to figure out why the team have been below average ever since they got eliminated from the Copa Libertadores, in the… suicidal way that happened. Good news for Flamengo is that newly-signed attacking midfielder Everton Ribeiro and defender Rhodolfo have their papers ready, and it’s up to coach Ze Ricardo to decide if he’ll use them or not in this game.
In their home game against Botafogo I avoided the 1.85 their win paid, and opted for over 2.5 goals, at 2.30. They conceded twice, but, after four home games in which they had scored a total of eight goals, they stayed at nil, for the first time this season, losing the game, and not… doing their part to make my ‘over 2.5 goals’ prediction come good. Despite having lost three of their last four games, Chape remain in the top-six, the positions that lead to next season’s Copa Libertadores. Obviously it’s still too early for that, but as long as the team remain in the top-six, their undeniable weaknesses will… attract less criticism. Writing about weaknesses, it should be noted that they have conceded an incredible 12 goals in their last four games(!!).
Flamengo vs Chapecoense: Head-to-head Stats
Flamengo have two wins and one draw at home against Chapecoense since 2014, when Chape started playing in the Serie A.
Flamengo vs Chapecoense: Prediction
Flamengo looked good in their debut at Ilha do Urubu, their new home, a week ago. I expect them to build on that 2-0 over Ponte Preta and the positive results away from home the last ten days, and beat a very inconsistent Chapecoense.
Flamengo vs Chapecoense: Tips
Flamengo’s win pays 1.50. Taking the same risk I took in Chapecoense vs Botafogo, I’m counting on the game to have at least three goals (1.90), and Flamengo to win, a combination that pays 2.50.
