Flamengo vs Emelec
Competition: Copa Libertadores
Date: 17 May 2018
Kick-off: 02:45 CET
This is Flamengo’s golden chance to secure their ticket to the last 16 of the competition. A win will push them to nine points, five more than Santa Fe, booking them a spot in the next round of the Copa Libertadores. A draw won’t be a disaster, but will leave things open to be decided next week, when Fla will travel to Buenos Aires to face River Plate, and Santa Fe will visit Emelec. Last weekend, Flamengo lost 3-2 to Chapecoense in Brazil’s championship, their first defeat in five matches there. The biggest news though came the day after, when the final decision regarding Paolo Guerrero was announced. The Peruvian, who had just returned to Fla’s games and was getting ready for the World Cup finals, had his previous ban extended. What that means, practically, is that he won’t play for several more months, and according to reports, Flamengo are considering annulling his contract.
This will be Alfredo Arias’ last game in charge at Emelec. The Uruguayan coach decided to leave the club days ago, but after a talk with his players, he accepted to stay for two more matches. Last weekend, they beat Delfín 2-1 at home, in Ecuador’s championship. He has said that regardless of what happens in Rio de Janeiro, he won’t change his mind, it’s this one last game and he’s off. Center-back Jorge Guagua is back, after spending some time banned from the first team training sessions, due to lack of discipline. On the other hand, defenders Brayan Angulo and Marlon de Jesús did not travel to Brazil (both injured). Emelec are at the bottom of the group table, on just one point from four matches, but mathematically, they can still finish second, and, obviously, third (to play, at least, Copa Sudamericana football in the second half of the season).

Flamengo vs Emelec: Head to head Stats
Flamengo have hosted Emelec twice before. They beat them 1-0 in 2012, and 3-1 in 2014. Both Copa Libertadores group stage games.
Flamengo vs Emelec: Prediction
Flamengo players shot a video asking their fans to go to Maracana for this game. Fla played behind closed doors in their two previous matches in the group, serving a ban from last year. After all that hype, I can’t imagine them not winning this game.
Flamengo vs Emelec: Betting Tips
A simple Flamengo win pays just 1.28. “Over 2.5 goals” is at 1.85, and these two combined pay an even better 2.05.
