Fluminense vs America Mineiro
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 2 December 2018
Kick-off: 20:00 CET
Fluminense sacked their coach after their 0-2 defeat at home midweek, in the return leg of the Copa Sudamericana semifinal against Atlético Paranaense. Marcelo Oliveira somehow “survived” Fluminense’s horrible run of poor results in November (six defeats, two draws, not a single goal scored!!!), but with just one game left, the board of directors felt they needed to do something, something drastic. Former assistant coach Fábio Moreno is in charge. On Friday, a group of Flu supporters invaded the field during a training session, and had a… “strong conversation” with some of the players. Flu are on 42 points, 14th in the table. Truth is, crazy things need to happen for them to get relegated, but it’s still possible. They are safe even if they draw, they don’t need to win. If they lose, they are left behind América, who, at the moment, are below the relegation line, on 40 points. Flu will fall, if they lose, AND if Vasco da Gama earn a point at Ceará (this way, they’d go to 43), AND Chapecoense beat Sao Paulo. In other words, THREE horrible – for Flu – results need to come together, for them to fall to the Serie B.
Things are much tougher for América Mineiro; they are already below the relegation zone, on 40 points. To stay in the Serie A, they need to win this match. If they draw, it will come down to results in other games. If they draw, Sport Recife draw, and Chapecoense lose, they finish right above the relegation line, level on points with Chape, same wins, but better goal difference. If they draw, Chape lose, but Sport Recife beat Santos at home, América go down. It goes without writing, they get relegated if they lose, no matter what happens in other matches.

Fluminense vs America Mineiro: Head to head Stats
Two years ago, Flu beat América 1-0 in Rio de Janeiro. Before that, they hadn’t hosted them since 2011 (1-2 América win).
Fluminense vs America Mineiro: Prediction
Hard to believe… No, scratch that, IMPOSSIBLE to believe… Fluminense played eight matches in November, and didn’t score a single goal, a SINGLE goal, in EIGHT matches… Do their players have the… balls to raise to the occasion, and finally get a positive result, even a draw, which would be enough for them to avoid relegation? I say yes.
Fluminense vs America Mineiro: Betting Tips
Fluminense are considered favorites to win, but I wouldn’t bet on that. I don’t expect them to lose (let alone get relegated), but I don’t see them win. “Draw and under 2.5 goals” is at 3.75, my – risky – tip. Fluminense’s clean sheet is at 2.37.
