Fluminense vs Cruzeiro
Competition: Brazilian Serie A
Date: 21 July 2017
Kick-off: 00:30 CET
After three draws and one defeat in their last four Brasileirao matches, Fluminense got their act together at Coritiba on Sunday and finally returned to victories. The challenge now is to win a second game in a row, something they haven’t done since mid/late April(!), beating Goias and Vasco da Gama in back-to-back Copa do Brasil and Carioca championship matches back then. Left-back Marlon was signed on Tuesday, another sign that Leo, Fluminense’s regular left-back, present in 12 of their 14 games so far in the championship, will leave the team. The negotiations with Genoa seem stuck, but the overall feeling is that sooner or later a deal will be reached. Right winger Wellington Silva is one step from the exit, while there are rumors that Ajax are interested in 20-year-old center-forward Richarlison, scorer of one of Flu’s two goals at Coritiba.
Cruzeiro hosted a ‘wounded’ Flamengo last weekend, Fla had just lost at home to Gremio seeing their amazing run of wins come to an end, but the Belo Horizonte side failed to… pour enough salt on Flamengo’s wound, earning just a draw, a result that wasn’t particularly good or bad for any of the two. On Tuesday, they finally reached an agreement with Boca Juniors over 27-year-old Argentine striker Ramon Abila, he is returning home, having scored three goals in ten appearances in this season’s Brasileirao. Lately he hadn’t been playing, not for any other reason, but because Cruzeiro were negotiating his transfer to Boca, and didn’t want him to get injured.
Fluminense vs Cruzeiro: Head-to-head Stats
Fluminense have three wins and a draw in their last four home games versus Cruzeiro. Last time the Belo Horizonte team beat Flu in Rio de Janeiro was in 2012.
Fluminense vs Cruzeiro: Prediction
Fluminense have kept only one clean sheet this season(!), in 14 games, and they are hosting a team that have been scoring an average of two goals in their last six games. Bottom line, Cruzeiro should score at least once, and I would be surprised if they lost.
Fluminense vs Cruzeiro: Tips
‘Draw or Cruzeiro’ is at 1.57. Only Flamengo have more draws than Fluminense in the championship so far, so between draw and Cruzeiro, I feel draw, at 3.20, is much more probable.
