Fluminense vs Nacional Potosi
Competition: Copa Sudamericana
Date: 12 April 2018
Kick-off: 02:45 CET
First things first; Fluminense haven’t played since March 29, when they lost 3-2 to Vasco da Gama, in their last Carioca championship game. They had more than enough time to get prepared not just for this match against Nacional Potosí, but also for their Brasileirao debut, the coming weekend, at Corinthians. No title for them in Rio de Janeiro’s State championship, and super early exit form the Copa do Brasil, after their 1-0 defeat at Avai almost four weeks ago. Interestingly, Junior Sornoza, Flu’s attacking midfielder from Ecuador, thinks the team looked very good(!) in their last games, despite the negative results. To me, the only thing he said and actually makes sense, is that Flu need to be extra careful not to concede at Maracana, so as to keep things “as less complicated as possible” in the return leg in Potosí, at an altitude of over 4000 meters. Fluminense earned the very last Brazilian ticket to the Sudamericana, finishing 14th(!) in last season’s championship.
One thing Nacional Potosí and Fluminense share in common is that the Bolivians as well have just one win in their last five games. Last Friday they drew 2-2 at home to Royal Pari, a very disappointing result, right after their win at The Strongest. They are on 15 points from 11 matches in Bolivia’s championship, not really… impressing there. They snatched the last ticket to the Copa Sudamericana finishing 8th last season in Bolivia’s championship (combining both halves). The target is obvious; keep the score as low as possible, counting on Potosí’s relentless altitude in the return leg to help them overcome a one-goal (preferably, not bigger, if they don’t manage to leave Rio de Janeiro undefeated) deficit.

Fluminense vs Nacional Potosi: Head to head Stats
Interestingly, Fluminense have never faced a team from Bolivia before.
Fluminense vs Nacional Potosi: Prediction
Nacional’s double chance pays more than 5.00, but I don’t believe in them. I will be… shocked if Fluminense don’t win, and deep down I see them secure a ticket to the next round from the first leg.
Fluminense vs Nacional Potosi: Betting Tips
I’m between three and four goals. “Over 2.5” pays 1.58, while “over 3.5” is at 2.48. The temptation to bet on the latter is big, and that’s my main tip.
