Fluminense vs Santos
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 14 June 2018
Kick-off: 00:00 CET
The World Cup finals break couldn’t come soon enough for Fluminense… Four game weeks ago, they were second in the table. Today, they are in the lower half of that, having picked up just one point from their last four matches, none from their last three. Plus, they have conceded nine(!) goals in their last three defeats, five of those last weekend, at Atlético Mineiro. Abel Braga, their coach, said that the result was… cruel to them, that the difference between the two teams on the pitch was nowhere near three goals. I partly agree with him, but from that, to claim that Fluminense deserved to leave Belo Horizonte with a point, the gap is… chaotic. Center-backs Renato Chaves and Gum missed the game against Atlético, but both are back.
Despite having beaten Vitória 5-2 and drawn with Corinthians 1-1 in their two previous games before hosting newly-promoted Internacional, Santos failed big last weekend, losing the game 2-1. If that weren’t enough, they lost center-back Lucas Veríssimo as well (he got sent-off right after Inter’s second goal). The 22-year-old may have played his last game for Santos, as Ligue 1 side Lyon are reported to be one tiny step away from reaching a deal with the Brazilian club over his transfer. Winger Sasha is another guy who’ll miss this game, injured. Against Inter, he wasted one of the… “assists of the season”, offered to him by Gabriel Barbosa. Bruno Henrique trained without problems the last couple of days, and should start instead of Sasha. Santos are on just 10 points from as many games (they have one in hand, against Vasco da Gama).

Fluminense vs Santos: Head to head Stats
Three wins for Fluminense and two for Santos in the last five games between these two in Rio de Janeiro.
Fluminense vs Santos: Prediction
Fluminense have earned 10 out of possible 12 points at home, and by “home” I mean Maracana. They did lose 2-0 as hosts to Flamengo, but the game was held in Brasília. Santos have managed just one point away from home in five matches, I repeat, one point in five matches(!). Everything considered though, I’m taking the risk to back the underdogs, Santos, to leave Rio de Janeiro undefeated. I’m following mostly a hunch, as numbers do not favor Santos in this game.
Fluminense vs Santos: Betting Tips
Santos’ win in “draw no bet” is at 2.25. Their double chance pays 1.66.
