Fortuna Dusseldorf vs Mainz
Competition: Germany Bundesliga
Date: 30 November 2018
Kick-off: 20:30 CET
Dodi Lukebakio, Fortuna Dusseldorf’s 21-year-old Belgian striker, did something last weekend, that no one had managed to do before; scored three goals in a single Bundesliga game past Manuel Neuer(!). Twenty minutes into the game, Fortuna were 2-0 down, looking… doomed. Just before halftime Lukebakio shortened the gap, but just before the hour-mark Bayern restored their two-goal lead. Incredibly, Lukebakio scored twice more, and what makes his accomplishment even harder to believe is that both goals were products of counterattacks, even deep into added time. They left Munich with an… insane 3-3 draw, not enough to pull them out of the relegation zone, but still, a big result. They are second-to-last, on nine points. Rensing, Zimmermann, Bormuth, Kaminski, Gießelmann, Zimmer, Bodzek, Fink, Stöger, Usami and Lukebakio, these should be the first 11. Coach Friedhelm Funkel doesn’t have left-back Diego Contento, goalkeeper Raphael Wolf, and another goalkeeper Tim Wiesner at his disposal. Center-back Kaan Ayhan had fever during part of the week, and is doubtful. Defensive midfielder Marcel Sobotka is back from injury, but fitness-wise, not ready yet.
Mainz did lose to leaders Borussia Dortmund last weekend, 1-2, but their performance was good, and proved that their back-to-back wins over Werder Bremen and Freiburg earlier this month were no accident. They are expected to start with Zentner, Brosinski, Bell, Hack, Niakhate, Martin, Gbamin, Kunde, Latza, Mateta and Quaison. Goalkeeper Florian Müller is the latest one to get injured. Ironically, coach Sandro Schwarz doesn’t have René Adler at his disposal either, his most experienced goalkeeper. Center-forward Emil Berggreen, central midfielder Ridle Baku and right-back Phillipp Mwene are also out, all injured. Mainz are 10th in the Bundesliga table, on 15 points.

Fortuna Dusseldorf vs Mainz: Prediction
Unbelievable Fortuna, in their last two games, they scored more goals (seven), than in their first 10 Bundesliga matches combined (six). They may be below the relegation line, but at this point, they have to be taken seriously. I wouldn’t pick a side in this match, I consider it too open to any result, more than other matches this weekend. I prefer focusing on goals instead.
