Freiburg vs Mainz
Competition: Germany Bundesliga
Date: 10 November 2018
Kick-off: 15:30 CET
Freiburg have every reason to feel great about how things are going for them. Thirteen points from 10 matches and a 10th spot in the table are more than decent numbers, plus, last weekend, they earned their first point at Bayern Munich in more than 20 years(!). They drew 1-1, thanks to Lucas Höler’s equalizer in the 89th minute. They did get eliminated in the DFB Pokal by a modest side from a lower division 10 days ago, but either way, the Cup was not their main target this season. Striker Nils Petersen (he had a fantastic season last year) is back, but midfielder Jerome Gondorf and forward Rolland Sallai are not expected to play. Abrashi, Borello, Kübler, Niederlechner and Stanko are other injured players on whom Christian Streich cannot count on this weekend. Freiburg are expected to start with Schwolow, Stenzel, Gulde, Heintz, Günter, Haberer, Koch, Höfler, Frantz, Petersen, and Höler.
Mainz hadn’t won in six Bundesliga matches (plus, they had gotten eliminated by Augsburg in the DFB Pokal) before hosting Werder Bremen last weekend, they were right above the relegation line, in other words, they were… dying to bounce back, and they did. They won 2-1, more easily than what the final score suggests. Werder’s goal came late, and Mainz just had to keep control in the last 10-15 minutes not to squander all the effort they had put in, to go 2-0 up early in the second half. Sandro Schwarz is expected to have Zentner, Brosinski, Bell, Niakhate, Martin, Gbamin, Kunde, Latza, Kunde, Boëtius and Mateta in the starting lineup. Regular goalkeeper Florian Müller remains sidelined, and either way, Robin Zentner did great last weekend. Adler, Baku, Berggreen, Bungert, Holtmann, and Mwene are the several other players who are unavailable this weekend due to injuries.
