Frolunda Gothenburg vs Malmo Redhawks
Competition: Swedish Hockey League
Date: 22nd November 2016
Kick-off: 19:00 CET
A month or so ago this would have been a battle for first place, but differences in form means that Frolunda are now some eight points clear of Malmo in this top four battle.
The Gothenburg side have been in fine form of late, and are six points clear at the top of the SHL thanks to three straight wins, and nice in their last eleven matches. With an impressive 13-1-1-5 record from 20 matches, Frolunda top the table with 42 points and have only lost one game since the international break.
Malmo are on a bit of a rotten run which has seen them slip gradually out of the top three, and could sink as low as outside the automatic six play-off places if they lose and other results go against them. One win in four is their record going into this game, but it’s more serious form that has seen them tumble – two wins from their last ten games seems unthinkable for the side who started unbeaten for weeks on end.
Frolunda have the best home record in the league, having lost one only game of the nine that they’ve played in Gothenburg. They are currently enjoying a run of five consecutive wins at home, where the side scores 3,3goals a game on average while conceding only 1,2.
Malmo are as high as they are in large part due to their road form, which is beaten only by Karlskrona’s. They’ve won six of their eleven away matches in regulation, losing four in the process and have 19 points from their travels so far. The team are decent scorers two, averaging 3,3 goals a game – but they concede too many, an average of 2,7 against.
