Galatasaray vs Schalke
Competition: UEFA Champions League
Date: 24 October 2018
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
Galatasaray were second best on the field earlier this month when they visited Porto, and lost 1-0, rather… naturally. They had less attempts than the Portuguese side, less on target as well, smaller ball possession, way more wrong passes, many of which under not that much pressure, they even ran less than Porto, so… that narrow 1-0 feels rather fair. They are on three points from two matches in the group, counting on their home to push them to the last 16 of the competition. They haven’t won in their last 12 away games in the Champions League, so it’s really the games in front of their own fans that “promise” them all three points. On Friday, they got stuck to a 1-1 draw at home with Bursaspor, but they remain leaders in Turkey’s championship, one point ahead of Istanbul Basaksehir and Kasimpasa.
If the Bundesliga were over today, Schalke would need play-offs to secure their spot in Germany’s top division for another season… Unbelievable as they may look, Schalke are 16th(!), on just six points from eight matches. On Saturday, they lost 0-2 at home to Werder Bremen, a real let-down, after having won three games in a row, two in the Bundesliga and that 0-1 at Lokomotiv Moscow three weeks ago, in the CL group. No matter how bleak their season looks, domestically, they do stand decent chances of being in the CL last-16, mostly thanks to that victory in Russia. It’s interesting that in their last six matches, they’ve either scored first and won without conceding (three times), or conceded first and lost, failing to score. In other words, it feels like the first goal really decides things in their games, positively or negatively.

Galatasaray vs Schalke: Head to head Stats
Galatasaray have hosted Schalke once before, in 2013; it was a Champions League round of 16 first leg, a 1-1 draw.
Galatasaray vs Schalke: Prediction
I have more faith in Galatasaray, rather than Schalke. Bookies give both teams exactly the same chances to win. My choice is Galatasaray, mostly because of their… infernal home.
Galatasaray vs Schalke: Betting Tips
The hosts’ win pays 2.70, with their double chance at 1.45. “No” on “both teams to score” is another way to go in this game. It pays 1.90, and seems very probable, given that in Schalke’s last six games, both in wins and defeats, only one of the two teams scored.
