General Diaz vs Olimpia
Competition: Paraguay Clausura
Date: 21 July 2018
Kick-off: 23:45 CET
Left midfielder Blas Cáceres played his first game for General Díaz midweek, when they visited 3 de Febrero, and what a way he… found to finish his debut, scoring an incredible goal from a distance, deep into added time, to salvage a point for his team. The final 1-1 is rather flattering to the Luque side. I was left with the impression that 3 de Febrero deserved to win, but… Cáceres’ goal alone was enough to save General Díaz. Coach Florencio Villalba Bogado needs to solve some problems; right-back Alberto Espínola is injured, unavailable, with Ariel Martínez expected to take his spot in the starting lineup. Another defensive line problem has to do with Pablo Meza, who got sent-off in the game of General Díaz’s reserves against those of Cerro Porteño(!). He was expected to take the place of Julio González, who was transferred to Argentinian side Defensa y Justicia. Jesús Godoy should be the one to… benefit from this… mess, and start the game. At least Argentinian midfielder Rubén Darío Ríos is back from injury.
Alfredo Aguilar, Olimpia’s goalkeeper, by far the best keeper in the Apertura, in the first half of the year, a massive figure in Olimpia’s lineup and a key player in their success of winning the Apertura, committed a very uncharacteristic of him mistake against Nacional midweek, which put Olimpia 1-0 down in the first half. The reigning champions didn’t get discouraged, fought back in the second half, scored two goals/products of combinations between Néstor Camacho, William Mendieta and Roque Santa Cruz, winning the game 2-1. They did the same thing several times in the Apertura, conceded first, came back to win most of their games, so… no big surprise. Camacho picked up a knock against Nacional, but 24 hours before kick-off he looked good, and should start.

General Diaz vs Olimpia: Head to head Stats
Two wins for General Díaz, two for Olimpia as well, and a draw, in the last five games between these two with General Díaz as hosts.
General Diaz vs Olimpia: Prediction
First things first, the game is held at Defensores del Chaco. Olimpia were technically visitors midweek, against Nacional, but as expected, their fans far outnumbered those of Nacional at neutral Defensores. The fact that General Díaz chose to set low ticket prices, should encourage even more Olimpia fans to go to Defensores (especially after the win over Nacional). All things considered, I’ll be very surprised if Olimpia don’t win this match.
General Diaz vs Olimpia: Betting Tips
A simple Olimpia win pays just 1.45. For more than that, I would go for “Olimpia and over 2.5 goals”, at 2.05.
