General Diaz vs Sol de America
Competition: Paraguay Clausura
Date: 21 September 2018
Kick-off: 23:45 CET
Last weekend’s Libertad vs General Díaz was a bad game of very few real chances in front of the two goals, a game which was decided by a single strike, a beautiful goal scored by Libertad’s Iván Franco. General Díaz had three positive results in a row before that game, but instead of looking… pumped, enthusiastic, determined to get something of their visit to Tuyucuá, they looked mostly… passive. Left-back Diego Vera got sent-off in added time and is missing. Right-back Alberto Espínola received his fifth yellow card and is also out of this match. General Díaz are at the bottom of the Clausura table, on just eight points from 10 matches, but they are 8th in the promedio table, relatively safe (for the moment).
What a win by Sol de América last weekend… They beat leaders and reigning champions Olimpia in Ciudad del Este, scoring twice in the first half (Adrián Martínez sent the ball in twice), and protecting that lead until the final whistle (2-1). It was their third win in a row, Copa Paraguay and Clausura combined, and made some inside the club start talking about earning enough points in the remainder of the tournament to challenge for a Copa Libertadores ticket(!). When you beat the leaders of your championship, and you beat them well, you are… allowed to dream big.
