Germany vs Sweden
Competition: 2018 World Cup finals
Date: 23 June 2018
Kick-off: 20:00 CET
Germany have enjoyed lots of success under Joachim Loew, but there have been bad games as well. What was new after their poor performance and 1-0 defeat to Mexico the other day, was that certain players turned against teammates, and indirectly against the coach. Mats Hummels for example, said that many times it was two or three players defending, and the rest attacking. Joshua Kimmich said something similar. Germany lost the game, lost a good part of people’s trust in them as well, not to mention that of the bookmakers, who still consider them candidates to win the World Cup, but only fourth in the list of the top favorites.
Sweden did their… “duty” against South Korea, beat the weakest side of the group thanks to a VAR-awarded penalty kick, starting their group campaign the way they had to. The fact that they kept a clean sheet (against a definitely weak, offensively, team) was something, but… they may “regret” not doing better offensively. Given how things are in the group, with Mexico having beaten Germany, the second spot in the table may come down to goal difference, and there, Sweden’s poor victory over South Korea may make all the difference. Friendlies and World Cup opener combined, Sweden have now kept three clean sheets in a row, but on the other hand, that goal against South Korea, from the penalty spot, is their only one in their last four matches.

Germany vs Sweden: Prediction
I cannot imagine Germany not winning this game. They are with their back against the wall, and despite their poor performance against Mexico, I still believe in them.
Germany vs Sweden: Betting Tips
A simple Germany victory pays just 1.44. I expect Loew’s team to look VERY improved defensively, and not just win, but keep a clean sheet as well. That combination pays 2.20. “Germany to keep a clean sheet”, leaving their victory aside, is at 1.90, in case you doubt they’ll score.
