Gimnasia La Plata vs Tigre
Competition: Argentina Superliga
Date: 1 February 2019
Kick-off: 23:00 CET
Gimnasia La Plata were left no chance by Atlético Tucumán last weekend. They lost 4-1, paying for some incredibly sloppy defensive mistakes. It felt like Gimnasia’s players were always… one step behind. It was one of those games that in the first 15 minutes you realize things are not how you expected them to be. Come 14th minute, Gimnasia were already 2-0 down, and despite getting a goal back before half-time, it was clear they were getting outplayed by Atlético Tucumán. They are 22nd in the table, on 15 points from 16 matches. More importantly, they are 21st in the “promedio” table. It’s those placed 23rd and lower that will get relegated at the end of the season.
“Talking” about teams that will get relegated at the end of the season, Tigre… Their first match in 2019, last weekend, at home against San Martín Tucumán, looked a lot like several games of theirs in 2018; they scored twice, but that was good enough to earn them just one point. Given that they went 1-2 down in the 80th minute, the final 2-2 wasn’t the worst that could have happened to them. They may be 19th in the table, but what matters the most is that they are 26th, last, in the “promedio” table. Their position is… dire, and even that strong word is not saying the full story. I keep writing that they need a miracle to avoid relegation, and after last weekend’s result, that miracle feels even more distant. A few days ago they finalized the signing of Nicolás Colazo, a former Boca Juniors man, midfielder. He’ll play for them until the end of the season.

“Both teams to score” is at 2.00, my main tip. Combined with “over 2.5 goals”, that goes up to 2.75.
