Glasgow Warriors vs Munster
Competition: European Rugby Champions Cup
Date: 14 January 2017
Kick-off: 18:30 CET
Munster, having caught up their postponed game against Racing, will feel that they have done enough to stay atop of Pool one, however, they are not out of the woods yet and will want to beat Glasgow, their nearest rivals, to be assured of top spot in their pool.
Munster have only lost the one game, which was a surprising turnaround of events as Leicester Tigers rallied at home after the Irish side managed to beat them 38-0 at home, and then lost 18-16. But still, Munster have been in awesome form recently, and seemed to have rallied as a side since the tragic passing of their coach Anthony Foley. They top the group, with Warriors behind them three points back, so a win here would mean that Muster would take a much bigger lead at the top with only one more round to play. However, a loss would see the Scottish team into pole position to top the group.
Warriors have also performed well in this pool, again, only losing one game which was against Munster in their first meeting, but their issue has been picking up bonus points having got only one for scoring four or more tries. The Warriors are also in striking range of Leicester, who are dark horses for qualifying from this group, as the Tigers are a bonus point win away from equaling Warriors points should the Scots lose. There is still a lot of shifting that can happen in this group, but no doubt for both these teams, a win here would make the final round far more comfortable.
Glasgow Warriors vs Munster: Previous encounter
It was the second round when these sides clashed, but it was Munster’s first game and it was also clear that the Irish side were incredibly fired up as they took apart a good Glasgow side 38-17. Keith Earles was shown red in the fiery encounter, but the Munster backs were sublime as Tyler Bleyendaal, Rory Scannell, Jaco Taute and Simon Zebo all scored.
Glasgow Warriors vs Munster: Prediction
Munster are still a team that is really fired up and doing well in the Pro 12, but they do have to travel to Scotland which will make things a lot harder. Both Warriors and Munster will be up for this game, and the Scots won’t want a repeat of last time, so expect it to be a tight encounter which anyone could win.
Glasgow Warriors vs Munster: Tips
Should be a cracking game with a winner hard to call. But something that is a little easier to call is that CJ Stander can easily score a try in this game as he has been in fantastic form.
