Godoy Cruz vs San Martin Tucuman
Competition: Argentina Superliga
Date: 10 February 2019
Kick-off: 21:10 CET
Godoy Cruz lost 2-0 at Boca Juniors last weekend, a rather harsh result. The Mendoza side missed glorious chances to score, and actually they did score with the score at 1-0, in the dying minutes of the match, but the assistant referee raised his flag for offside, where no offside existed. Overall, the game could easily have had more than two goals, Boca too missed fantastic chances, but I repeat, that two-goal difference in the final score feels… too much. El Tomba is 11th in the table, on 23 points from 17 matches, falling and falling and falling these last weeks. In three matches in 2019, they didn’t score a single goal (that counted), and lost all three. Actually, they are the only Superliga team to have lost three games in a row.
What an opportunity San Martín Tucumán missed last weekend to… make headlines in Argentina. There is only one team left undefeated in the championship this season, and that’s Defensa y Justicia. San Martín were beating them 1-0 at home last weekend, until the 82nd minute, when an own-goal scored by Paz Benítez made it 1-1 for Defensa. That wasn’t all; come added time, the Florencio Varela side scored again(!), to “escape” with a hard to believe (given how the whole game went) 1-2 victory. San Martín are second-to-last in the “promedio” table, on 17 points from 17 matches. They seriously need to win a couple of games in a row, or else, come April, they’ll be going back to the second division, from where they got promoted last year.

Godoy Cruz vs San Martin Tucuman: Prediction
Godoy Cruz have conceded eight goals in three matches in 2019, and are hosting a team whose two matches thus far this year went over 2.5 goals, both. The hosts are considered favorites to win, but I prefer to bet on goals instead.
