Greece vs Hungary
Competition: UEFA Nations League
Date: 12 October 2018
Kick-off: 20:45 CET
After beating Estonia 0-1 in Tallinn, on their Nations League debut, and seeing Hungary lose in Finland, the overall feeling in Greece was that one way or another they would earn the result they wanted in Budapest, in their second game, a draw, minimum. In practice, they proved way too average to claim that point in Hungary. Their German coach made a series of conservative choices, practically butchering his team’s chances of leaving Budapest undefeated. On three points from two matches, the target in their next two games is crystal clear; win over Hungary in Athens, at least a draw in Helsinki, in a few days. Andreas Bouchalakis, an Olympiakos player, member of the national team, told reporters the other day, “of course we’ll qualify for Euro 2020”. “Of course we’ll qualify for Euro 2016” was what Claudio Ranieri had said on camera at the start of the Euro 2016 qualifiers, and a couple of months later he was fired due to the team’s pitiful results back then. Greece never made it to France’s stadiums for the finals.
Kudos to Hungary for their 2-1 victory over Greece a month ago, at home, even without fans on the stands (they were banned), but I was left with the impression that it was mostly Greece’s coach who decided the winner with a series of hard to explain choices. Hungary had just lost 1-0 in Finland, so beating Greece, bouncing back, was a must. They are visiting Estonia in a few days, and have the last two group matches at home next month. A draw (let alone a win) in Athens, will be a big step towards finishing at the top.

Greece vs Hungary: Prediction
Despite disappointing a month ago, in Budapest, I expect Greece to do the bare minimum to win the game.
Greece vs Hungary: Betting Tips
A simple Greece victory pays 1.67. For more than that, I would combine their win with a clean sheet. Like that, it pays a much better 2.35.
