Gremio vs Chapecoense
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 6 August 2019
Kick-off: 01:00 CET
Gremio haven’t won the championship in Brazil since… ever, they are considered a “Cup team”, and they are definitely justifying that title this season, being one of the only two teams to still be active both in Copa do Brasil (semifinals), and a CONMEBOL competition (Copa Libertadores). On Thursday they beat Libertad in Asunción, throwing a party in the first half (0-3!, also the final score). Later this month they will be facing Flamengo in the quarterfinals, and if they qualify, they could face big city rivals Internacional in the semis. Actually, they could face Inter in the Copa do Brasil final as well, if both teams succeed in the semis. Gremio are facing Cruzeiro. To have such success in Cup competitions, Gremio have sacrificed precious points in the Serie A. A week ago they drew with CSA (0-0). Having won just four of their 12 matches in the championship thus far, they sit just 11th in the table. More good(?) news for the club is that Everton seems to be staying put. “We’ve got nothing”, was the comment of a top member of the board of directors, on Saturday, talking about offers the club have – not – received from abroad for Everton, one of Brazil’s best players in the Copa América last month. He was expected to move to Europe, Arsenal were reported to be very interested, but even Gremio officials are left surprised at the lack of serious official offers for a player who is considered among the best to be playing in any Brazilian team these days. Gremio are expected to start with Paulo Victor, Leonardo, Geromel, Kannemann, Cortez, Maicon, Matheus Henrique, Jean Pyerre, Éverton, Alisson and André.
Last weekend’s goalless draw with Bahia at home did little to improve Chapecoense’s position in the table. They remained below the relegation line, 18th, having celebrated just one victory in their last 11 matches. Emerson Cris does not have centre-back Douglas and striker Henrique Almeida at his disposal. The former is injured, and the latter signed at Chape on loan from Gremio, and there is an agreement between the two clubs for him not to play in the games between them. Chape should start with Tiepo, Eduardo, Gum, Maurício Ramos, Bruno Pacheco, Márcio Araújo, Gustavo Campanharo, Augusto, Camilo, Arthur Gomes and Everaldo.

Gremio vs Chapecoense: Head to head Stats
Three wins for Gremio and two for Chape in the five games between these two in Porto Alegre the last five years.
Gremio vs Chapecoense: Prediction
I’m with Gremio to win the game. The fact that they play on Monday and not Sunday (having traveled to Paraguay last week) is important, I reckon.
Gremio vs Chapecoense: Betting Tips
A simple Gremio win pays less than 1.40, so I would risk combining it with “under 3.5 goals”, at 1.80. “Gremio and under 2.5 goals” pays 2.75.
