Gremio vs Palmeiras
Competition: Copa Libertadores
Date: 21 August 2019
Kick-off: 02:30 CET
Gremio and Palmeiras met on Saturday, the hosts’ double chance combined with “over 1.5” was the tip here, at 2.50, sharing my hunch that the game would end in a 1-1 draw, that’s what happened, but truth is, Gremio suffered, especially in the first half. Every single time they lost the ball, they got in trouble, as Palmeiras looked super dangerous in their counterattacks. Renato Gaúcho changed things at halftime, and Gremio looked better in the second half, getting rewarded with a late equalizer. Should be mentioned though, that the Porto Alegre side played with a totally alternative lineup, as their coach “protected” all his regulars. Luiz Felipe Scolari, Palmeiras’ coach, rotated his squad as well, but not as much. Gremio are expected to start this Copa Libertadores quarterfinal with Paulo Victor, Leonardo, Geromel, Kannemann, Bruno Cortez, Maicon, Matheus Henrique, Alisson, Jean Pyerre, Everton and André.
Given that they had two games scheduled against Gremio in Porto Alegre in a matter of a few days, Palmeiras stayed in Rio Grande do Sul, avoiding spending more hours traveling. Normally, they would have used Internacional’s facilities, but the two clubs had some problems recently, so Palmeiras… found refuge at Pontifícia Universidade Católica, the facilities of a university. Scolari’s team were better on Saturday, but not only they couldn’t win, they also lost right-back Mayke, who got injured and needs to undergo surgery. According to reports, Palmeiras will start with Weverton, Marcos Rocha, Luan, Gustavo Gómez, Diogo Barbosa, Felipe Melo, Bruno Henrique, Scarpa, William, Dudu and Luiz Adriano (or Borja).

Gremio vs Palmeiras: Head to head Stats
Just one win for Gremio, two for Palmeiras, and two draws, in the last five games between these two in Porto Alegre.
Gremio vs Palmeiras: Prediction
Palmeiras looked superior on Saturday, but they played with a “mixed” team (some regulars, some reserves), while Gremio played exclusively with reserves. With their best possible 11 on the pitch, I expect the hosts to look much better, pass the ball around with way less mistakes than last weekend, and create way more scoring chances as well.
Gremio vs Palmeiras: Betting Tips
I’m going against the odds, choosing “over 2.5 goals”, at 2.70. It’s definitely risky, Gremio have to be super careful not to concede at home, but I’m counting on Palmeiras to score, and oblige Gremio to take bigger risks. The hosts’ double chance combined with “over 1.5” (not 2.5), is at 2.22, another way to approach this game.
