Gremio vs Vasco da Gama
Competition: Brazilian Serie A
Date: 4 June 2017
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
What happened to Gremio last weekend, is some sort of… mystery. They did play with some reserves, but still, they had conceded zero goals in the first two games of the championship against stronger teams than Sport, and conceded four in Recife in something more than 45 minutes. They did score three, but still lost the game. Midweek, they beat Fluminense 2-0 in Rio de Janeiro in the return leg of their Copa do Brasil tie, to advance to the next round. ‘Flu’ were enraged by the referee who sent off one of their players just five minutes into the game, but, regardless, Gremio are through. They now have five wins in their last six games in all competitions, but remains to be seen if the -partly- inexplicable defensive black hole at Sport was an one-off thing, or…
Last weekend, Vasco were considered outsiders against Fluminese, but I backed them not to lose and their game to have at least three goals. They ended up winning 3-2, thanks to a Nene goal in the last minute. According to reports, Luis Fabiano will be left out, despite the fact that physically he is able to play. The vastly experienced center-forward, who scored the opening goal against Fluminense last weekend, is 36, and coach Milton Mendes feels he needs to treat him carefully, so as to have him fully fit for the next game against Corinthians, in a few days, at Sao Januario. Colombian left winger Andres ‘Manga’ Escobar is considered favorite to take Luis Fabiano’s place in the starting lineup.
Gremio vs Vasco da Gama: Head-to-head Stats
Gremio have won the last three home games against Vasco, without even conceding a goal. Before that, their previous two games in Porto Alegre ended in a draw.
Gremio vs Vasco da Gama: Prediction
Gremio are considered big favorites to win the game, and they should, maybe even comfortably. Other than that, I expect the match to have at least three goals.
Gremio vs Vasco da Gama: Tips
A simple Gremio win pays just 1.50. If you’re just after doubling your money, ‘over 2.5 goals’ feels very-very probable to me, and pays 2.07. Personally, I would bet on Gremio to win and the game to have three goals or more, which is at 2.62.
