Gremio vs Vasco da Gama
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 11 November 2018
Kick-off: 20:00 CET
It’s too late for Gremio to get back into the title race, but the season is by no means over for them. They want to finish in the top-4, so as to avoid playing in the Copa Libertadores qualifiers in February. They obviously want to secure a spot in the group stage without going through risky qualifiers. Last weekend, Pedro Geromel scored less than three minutes into the game at Atlético Mineiro, and that goal proved enough to earn Gremio all three points. The Porto Alegre side finished last weekend 5th in the table, two points behind 4th-placed Sao Paulo. Renato Portaluppi has problems to solve; Leonardo, Kannemann, Ramiro and Luan, none of the four is expected to start, and some may not even be on the bench. Plus, of course, regular goalkeeper Marcelo Grohe is out, not just of this game, but of the remainder of the season, after getting injured in the return leg of the Copa Libertadores semifinal against River Plate. Gremio’s coach asked reporters to leave after the first few minutes of Saturday’s training session, so as to… work in peace, and avoid giving hints regarding his starting lineup. According to reports though, Gremio will start with Paulo Victor, Léo Moura, Geromel, Paulo Miranda, Bruno Cortez, Michel, Maicon, Jean Pyerre, Alisson, Éverton and Jael.
Vasco da Gama made a big-big step towards avoiding relegation last weekend, when they beat Fluminense 0-1. Maxi López scored from the penalty spot in the 59th minute, and that was the only goal of the match. Center-back Leandro Castán is out due to cards, and Ricardo is expected to take his spot in the starting lineup. Alberto Valentim should have Martín Silva, Luiz Gustavo, Werley, Ricardo, Ramon, Willian Maranhão, Andrey, Fabrício (or Thiago Galhardo), Pikachu, Maxi López and Marrony (or Raul) as his first 11. Vasco finished last weekend 13th in the table, on 38 points, having created a four-point buffer zone between them and the teams in the relegation zone.

Gremio vs Vasco da Gama: Prediction
Gremio are considered huge favorites to win the game. At 1.40, I’m not tempted. Vasco tend to score on the road, even when they lose. Gremio on the other hand, have conceded eight goals in their last three home games(!).
Gremio vs Vasco da Gama: Betting Tips
“Both teams to score” is at 2.37, my main tip. Combined with “over 2.5 goals”, it pays even better, 3.10.
