Griquas vs Lions
Competition: Currie Cup
Date: 08 September 2017
Kick off: 19:15 CET
The Griquas, after springing a few surprises in games they probably should not have won, have fallen off the pace a bit and could really do with a win over a Lions side that is showing the smallest signs of rebuilding.
It is technically a bottom of the table clash as the Lions find themselves in very unfamiliar territory at the bottom of the currie Cup log with only two wins and five losses. The men from Johannesburg used the Currie Cup as their tournament to be reborn, and to see them so low down is sad. They have a number of the key players missing at the Springboks, but they also have a new coach and are in a new phase of their lives. The Griquas will pose a real threat, especially away from home, as the men from Kimberley have shown they like to attack, and although that is also what the Lions are good at, the Kimberly side have been better at it this season.
The Griquas managed to hit two great results in a row as the beat Western province at home, and then followed that up with a win against the Cheetahs, who are the defending champions, away from home. The Griquas side however have only managed those two wins as they have come close to other, but really just hit near misses. They have been very free flowing with their points scoring, but as a result their defence has suffered as their latest game against the Bulls saw them rack up 42 points, after reaching 45 points in the first fixture between these sides. When the Griquas met the Lions in Johannesburg earlier in the season they lost another close, but high scoring game, 48-43, so this will be a chance at revenge.

Griquas vs Lions: Head to Head Stats
The Lions hold most of the cards in this fixture but it is still relatively close. In their last 10 games against each other the Lions have six wins and the Griquas have four. But in those last eight the Griquas have only won two games – back to back.
Griquas vs Lions: Prediction
The Lions are slowly rebuilding themselves, but it really is a slow move as they managed to beat another minnow side in the Pumas by a single point to get off a losing streak. They are away from this game, and up against a side that likes to attack, with their weak defence. It should be a win for the home side, but it will depend if they are up for the fight.
