Guarani vs Deportes Iquique
Competition: Copa Libertadores
Date: 26 May 2017
Kick-off: 02:45 CET
Juan Aguilar, one of Guarani’s midfielders, said something very interesting a couple of days ago. Talking about the fact that Guarani will qualify even if they draw, he said that sometimes playing while knowing that a draw is enough to meet your target can be a trap. So it is, and it remains to be seen if the hosts will play to win, or if they will settle for a draw, which, if the score is 0-0 or 1-1 in the last minutes, could prove disastrous for them. Uruguayan attacking midfielder Hernan Novick missed the last two games due to an injury, but he’s back, and is expected to start the game. Guarani lost 4-2 at Independiente FBC last weekend, playing with an alternative lineup.
Deportes Iquique picked up a massive win in their last group match over Gremio, but ever since then they have been failing again and again in Chile’s championship. They lost 4-2 at home to Antofagasta, another loss came next, 2-0, at Universidad Catolica, and last weekend, at least they managed to earn a point, at home, against Deportes Temuco (0-0). They believe they can beat Guarani in Asuncion, they say so, several fans of theirs went to the hotel where the team had withdrawn before flying to Paraguay so as to greet them goodbye and wish them good luck, but… especially away from home they seem practically unable to win, they have just one victory in their last six games on the road, and that was over Zamora, the… joke of this season’s Copa Libertadores.
Guarani vs Deportes Iquique: Head-to-head Stats
Guarani beat Deportes Iquique 1-0 in Chile earlier this season, in the first game ever between these two sides.
Guarani vs Deportes Iquique: Prediction
I expect Guarani not just to qualify, not just to win, but do so scoring at least twice, in a game that will have at least three goals.
Guarani vs Deportes Iquique: Tips
A simple Guarani win is at 1.75. I feel confident enough to back the hosts to score more than once. The fact that Deportes Iquique need to win, leads me to believe that they will take big risks defensively, and keep trying until the end, possibly scoring a goal themselves. Guarani and over 2.5 goals pays 2.50.
