Guarani vs Independiente CG
Competition: Paraguay Clausura
Date: 28 July 2018
Kick-off: 01:00 CET
Job very-very well done by Guaraní at La Nueva Olla against Cerro Porteño last weekend. They earned a totally deserved draw, 1-1, having three shots on the post, and missing a series of other good chances to score more than once. Cerro had their moments as well, draw could be called a fair result, but if there was one team out of the two that deserved something more a bit more than the other, that was definitely Guaraní. Interestingly, after the game, Guaraní’s coach, Juan Manuel Azconzábal, instead of looking… excited with the point his team had earned at the home of a big favorite to win the Clausura, he talked about the lack of killer instinct, which “cost” his team two points. It sort of shows that Clausura’s Guaraní have set the bar much higher, having failed big in the Apertura. Left-back Guillermo Benítez is dealing with a muscle problem. If he can’t shake it off, Miguel Benítez will take his spot. He served his two-match ban and is back.
Given that they went down twice, 0-1 and 1-2, drawing 2-2 with Nacional last weekend at home was not the worst possible result for Independiente de Campo Grande. In the Apertura game against the same opponent at home, Inde had… thrown a party, no matter if later they lost the game on paper, due to fielding an ineligible player. Interestingly, Cerro Porteño did the same thing 10 days ago when they faced Independiente, but no matter how clear the case seems, the Campo Grande club had to file an official claim for the points (they lost 1-0), pay almost 3,000 euros (which, by their standards, is not a little), and the… “funniest” of all is that the Paraguayan Press keep calling Cerro’s mistake “supposedly a mistake” (which deep down is right, as there is no final decision on the matter), but some months ago, when Inde made a similar mistake, they had no trouble skipping the “supposedly” part right from the first day the issue came to light. Then again, Inde are nowhere near Cerro as a club, so… you can understand why the Press in Paraguay treats two very similar cases so differently.

Guarani vs Independiente CG: Head to head Stats
Two wins for Guaraní and one for Inde the last year and a half with Guaraní as hosts. Before that, “El Legendario” had not hosted Inde since 2012.
Guarani vs Independiente CG: Prediction
I like a lot what I have seen from Guaraní the last 10 days, so I’m backing them to continue their good start in the Clausura, picking up all three points.
Guarani vs Independiente CG: Betting Tips
Guaraní’s win pays 1.65. For more than that, I would risk with “Guaraní and over 2.5 goals”. They missed a lot of chances in their last two games, scored only two goals, but in cases like this, when a team loses that many chances, you have to expect them to improve, especially when they face a weaker opponent, like Independiente.
