Huracan vs Cruzeiro
Competition: Copa Libertadores
Date: 7 March 2019
Kick-off: 23:00 CET
When 2018 ended, Huracán were a serious top four candidate in the Superliga, in Argentina, having played some of the best football in the country in the first half of the season. Gustavo Alfaro left (for Boca Juniors), “El Turco” Mohamed took over, and today, Huracán seem to have very little in common with 2018’s team. They’ve lost three of their last five matches, drawn in the other two, and just last weekend they lost at Patronato (playing with some reserves), 1-0, a result that left them 7th in the table. It’s clear that whatever new Mohamed wanted to introduce to the way the team played, is simply not working, at least not yet. They finished fourth last season in Argentina’s championship, that’s how they earned a direct ticket to the Copa Libertadores group stage.
Cruzeiro have now had two… similar seasons in a row. They won the Copa do Brazil in 2017 and then again last year, with the final(s) both times taking place about two months before the end of the championship season. Having secured both times a title and a Copa Libertadores group stage ticket, Cruzeiro were left with… rather little interest in their championship the last two months, as they had already been left way behind the group of those leading. In the Libertadores, last season, they reached the quarterfinals, where they got eliminated by Boca Juniors, losing 2-0 in Buenos Aires, and drawing 1-1 in Belo Horizonte. Mano Menezes remains in charge. Anything else would have been a big surprise.

Huracan vs Cruzeiro: Head to head Stats
Huracán have hosted Cruzeiro once before, in 2015; it was a Copa Libertadores group stage game which they won 3-1.
Huracan vs Cruzeiro: Prediction
This is Huracán’s chance to… make amends with themselves, draw a line, leave their poor – thus far – 2019 behind them, start afresh. On the other hand, Cruzeiro can be a spectacularly… cynical opponent, earning positive results even on days they are second best on the pitch.
Huracan vs Cruzeiro: Betting Tips
All things considered, I’m tipping the hosts to avoid defeat, but I have serious doubts regarding them winning. Huracán’s win in “draw no bet”, the only way I would bet on their victory, is at 2.05. Their double chance is at just 1.53, but combined with “under 2.5 goals” it pays 2.02.
