Hurricanes vs Chiefs
Competition: Super Rugby
Date: 09 June 2017
Kick-off: 08:35 CET
With this game between the Hurricanes and the Chiefs the only offering from Super Rugby this weekend, you can almost be assured that these two Kiwi powerhouse will put on a show.
The New Zealand group is still supremely tight, with all of the teams barring the Blues in the running for the playoffs, but it is about where they finish in that group of five that will determine their opponents. It is really close as it stand with the Chiefs currently in second with 49 points, but the Hurricanes are only a single point back on 49. The battle really is for the Chiefs to try and stay in second as the Crusaders are miles ahead with 63 points. The Chiefs are probably deserving of second, however, they have not been at their best and most impressive, which does mean they can shift a gear, especially against the free-flowing Hurricanes. Should the Chiefs win this game, away from home, it will be a supreme effort, but it will also give them a good amount of breathing room.
For the Hurricanes, their attacking style of rugby has entertained throughout, especially against the weaker teams, However, they have been bullied a few times by some of the more rigid and structured kiwi teams. It is still a game of small margins though as the Hurricanes and the Chiefs have only lost two games each, the Chiefs just grabbing a draw ahead of the Canes. The Canes have a potent backline, with the likes of the Barrett brothers, their try-scoring centre pairing and the bus that is Julian Savea, but they need more dominance from their forwards, especially in facing a team like the Chiefs who are well rounded.
Hurricanes vs Chiefs: Head-to-Head Stats
To make things even more tasty, the last 10 games have yielded an even spread as the Chiefs and the Canes have both won five each. The Canes have won four of those at home while the Chiefs have managed to get two away wins.
Hurricanes vs Chiefs: Prediction
Of course, being at home is a big advantage, especially for a team like the hurricane who seem to step up their already impressive game that little bit more. But, the Canes do need to get into their flow quickly, and with a bit of disruption with the Lions in town, they may be slow to get going. The Chiefs have room to improve too, so they will hope they can take advantage in this one-off game.
Hurricanes vs Chiefs: Tips
The Canes will not stop attacking, so always back Savea, the centres, and especially Nehe Milner-Skudder who is back from injury, to score tries.
