Independiente Medellin vs Sol de America
Competition: Copa Sudamericana
Date: 11 May 2018
Kick-off: 02:45 CET
Usually it’s Atlético Nacional who make the headlines in Medellín and the rest of Colombia (if not the entire South America), but the city’s other team, Independiente, have had a spectacular season thus far, finishing second in regular season (behind Atlético Nacional), winning four games in a row before falling to Envigado last weekend. On Sunday they are visiting Junior, and a week later they will be hosting them, in a home-and-away clash that will decide who will make it to the last four. DIM’s players haven’t said it in these exact words, but it feels like the Copa Sudamericana is not their priority at the moment, especially having lost 2-0 in Paraguay.
The biggest news at Sol de América is that striker Ernesto “Pinti” Álvarez traveled with the group to Colombia, having recovered from his latest injury. You see him on the pitch and you are left thinking that… he should drop some kilos, he doesn’t really have the body of a professional footballer who wants to make a difference at his team, but truth is, with him in the lineup, Sol are a far more threatening side. The Paraguayans have a two-goal pillow from the first leg, and are facing an opponent who seems to be mostly focused on their championship. On the other hand, Sol have lost three games in a row in Paraguay’s Apertura tournament, and have just one point from their last four games, scoring just once in those four matches.

Independiente Medellin vs Sol de America: Prediction
Despite having prioritized their championship matches, I still expect DIM to win the game, but not qualify.
Independiente Medellin vs Sol de America: Betting Tips
A simple Independiente Medellín victory pays just 1.44. “Over 2.5 goals” is at 2.05, and these two combined offer an even better 2.40. I have a 2-1 hunch.
