Independiente vs Independiente del Valle
Competition: Copa Sudamericana
Date: 7 August 2019
Kick-off: 02:30 CET
Can a qualification be… embarrassing? I guess it can. Independiente did eliminate Universidad Católica last week, but the way it happened, didn’t make them look particularly good. They traveled to Ecuador having won 1-0 at home in the first leg. Twenty minutes into the match in Quito, they went 1-0 down from the penalty spot, but almost right after that, Católica were reduced to 10 men. Four minutes into the second half, Independiente scored, and the game was pretty much over(?). At that point, Católica, playing with 10 men, needed to score two more goals, and not concede any. Come 72nd minute, Independiente took the lead, doing what was expected, given that their roster is far superior to that of Católica, and let me repeat again, they were playing with an extra man. Unbelievably, they “managed” to lose the game, 3-2. Católica’s third goal was scored in added time, they didn’t really have time left to score the fourth they needed, but the very fact that Independiente lost a game they were winning until the 79th minute, playing with an extra man, felt ridiculous. Sebastián Beccacece is expected to make changes to the starting lineup, compared to who started in Quito last week. Campaña, Bustos (or Franco), Figal, Silva, Sánchez Miño, Pérez (or Chávez), Domingo, Hernández; Palacios, Benítez and Pizzini, these should be on the field at kickoff. No game for Independiente last weekend in Argentina’s championship.
CONMEBOL claim they informed the two teams about the schedule, which day and time they would be playing, weeks ago. Ask Independiente and Independiente del Valle, and they’ll both tell you they found out last Friday(!). The problem was particularly big for the Ecuadorians. The Sangolquí club cannot afford to charter a plane and travel comfortably. Given that they found out very late when they would be playing in Argentina, it was impossible to find ONE commercial flight with enough seats available, so, believe it or not, the group flew to Buenos Aires split in four(!) mini-groups. They all arrived on time, so… it could have been worse. Last weekend they drew 1-1 with América de Quito. In Copa Sudamericana they eliminated Caracas three weeks ago, but in three matches in their championship since then, all they did was pick up two points.

Independiente vs Independiente del Valle: Head to head Stats
Independiente have faced five teams from Ecuador in the past, but never their Sangolquí – sort of – namesakes.
Independiente vs Independiente del Valle: Prediction
Despite disappointing – up to a point – last week, the Argentinians should win this one.
Independiente vs Independiente del Valle: Betting Tips
Given that a simple Independiente win pays less than 1.50, I would risk combining it with “under 2.5 goals”, at 2.85.
