Independiente vs Millonarios
Competition: Copa Libertadores
Date: 16 March 2018
Kick-off: 01:30 CET
Independiente got themselves in trouble early in the group stage, losing 1-0 at Deportivo Lara, a team many expected to finish the group with a win, and maybe even without points. They bounced back, they triumphed at San Martín San Juan (4-0), last weekend they beat Argentinos Juniors as well (2-1, at home), they are third in Argentina’s Superliga, but that defeat in Venezuela has put them with their back against the wall already in the Copa Libertadores group. On another note, the day before this game against Millonarios, Rubén Galván died, an Independiente idol, one of their key figures back in the 70s, when he won… everything with the team, and more than once. The club have prepared something to honour his memory.
Usually it’s players who miss matches, they may be injured, they may be banned, sometimes out of their coach’s favour, but in Millonarios’ case the absence that is being mostly talked about ahead of this game is that of their coach. Miguel Ángel Russo flew to Buenos Aires earlier than the team, because he had to undergo some exams, he has been dealing with health issues for some time now, and missed a few Millonarios games. Up to 24 hours before kick-off, it was still unclear if he would be able to sit on the bench. If not, Hugo Gottardi will to substitute him, once again. Millonarios drew 0-0 to Corinthians at home two weeks ago. Last Thursday they lost 3-1 at Rionegro Águilas, a… painful defeat that left them 14th(!) in the table of Colombia’s championship, on just eight points from seven matches.

Independiente vs Millonarios: Head to head Stats
Independiente have hosted Millonarios four times in the past, and have won all four matches, by a total score of 14-3. All four games were a long time ago though, between 1964 and 1979.
Independiente vs Millonarios: Prediction
Independiente are considered practically sure winners. I’m going with that, expecting them to look vastly improved compared to that… unacceptable 1-0 defeat at Deportivo Lara two weeks ago.
Independiente vs Millonarios: Betting Tips
A simple Independiente win pays just 1.40, but combined with “under 2.5 goals” this goes up to a much-much better 2.62.
