Independiente vs Union de Santa Fe
Competition: Argentina Superliga
Date: 9 February 2019
Kick-off: 23:20 CET
Ariel Holan seems willing to… shake things up, not having liked what he saw the last two weeks. Independiente drew 1-1 with Talleres at home, a game they should have won, and last weekend they were nowhere to be seen at Nuevo Gasómetro, visiting San Lorenzo. They did earn a point (0-0), but they didn’t create a single real chance to score in the entire match, while San Lorenzo missed a penalty and another half a dozen chances. Centre-back Emanuel Brítez is suspended (he got sent-off last weekend), and centre-forward Silvio Romero is injured. If there are no late surprises, El Rojo will start the game with Campaña (he caught a penalty last weekend), Bustos, Alan Franco, Burdisso, Gastón Silva, Pablo Pérez (back from injury), Nico Domingo, Pablo Hernández, Cerutti, Martín Benítez and Cecilio Domínguez. Independiente have dropped 8th, and if they lose this game, they may drop 10th or lower.
Two weeks ago, Unión Santa Fe drew 0-0 at Belgrano, in an incredibly boring game. Last weekend they drew with Newell’s Old Boys at home, same result, no goals, but that match couldn’t have been any different to that of Córdoba. Both Unión and Newell’s had good chances to score, any of the two could have won it, and the final 0-0 is not really representative of how the 90 minutes went. Then again, most of the finishes were poor, it wasn’t the goalkeepers who saved their teams, so… deep down, it makes sense, how come there were no goals. At the end of the day, the ball goes where you send it, it doesn’t have a mind of its own. The Santa Fe side are 9th in the table, in the Copa Sudamericana zone. It’s worth mentioning that some of their fans applauded Maxi Rodríguez, a Newell’s player, when he got substituted. It’s really unusual to see that in Argentina, and it made the headlines there.

Independiente vs Union de Santa Fe: Head to head Stats
Independiente haven’t hosted Unión since 2013. Back then, they played against them in Avellaneda twice, and both games ended 1-1.
Independiente vs Union de Santa Fe: Prediction
I have big respect for Independiente, but I don’t trust them to win this game. I don’t like the attitude they showed in their games the last two weeks (and in several before the break). Plus, Unión are undefeated in three matches in 2019, having conceded just one goal. They even beat River Plate at Monumental.
Independiente vs Union de Santa Fe: Betting Tips
Unión’s double chance is at 1.88. The same combined with “under 2.5 goals” pays 2.45.
