Iraklis vs Panetolikos
Competition: Greek Super League
Date: 23 April 2017
Kick-off: 18:00 CET
What’s happening at Iraklis for weeks now could easily be the story of a best-seller book. In the latest ‘chapter’, fans of the club started gathering money to give at least some to the players who haven’t been paid for… no one knows how long. Some players are doing so bad, money-wise, that have been dealing with… practical problems, like paying the rent of their apartment. It’s that bad. Even so, the team have picked up three incredible wins in their last three games, and from 15th they are up to 13th, two points above the relegation zone. What’s ironic is that Iraklis may indeed finish above the relegation line, but the club’s financial problems are so big that no one can guarantee them they will compete in the Super League next season as well. Central midfielder Donis is unavailable due to cards.
Panetolikos had been doing horribly away from home even in times when they were eagerly searching for points in every game. Lately, ever since they found themselves in the middle of the table without a real motive left for them in the season, they have been a joke far away from Agrinio. They have lost seven of their last ten games away from home, drawn three, and scored just three goals, all three in games they either way lost. Central midfielder Marcos Paulo and centre-back Miguel Rodrigues have reached the cards limit and are unavailable. Strikers Markovski and Papadopoulos have been dealing with injury problems these last days, and were both left out of the team that traveled to Thessaloniki.
Iraklis vs Panetolikos: Head-to-head Stats
Last season’s game at Iraklis ended in a goalless draw. Before that, Iraklis and Panetolikos had one win each, in their two previous Football League (second category) games.
Iraklis vs Panetolikos: Prediction
I expect Iraklis to win, because of their spectacular form lately, because they have a huge motive to earn all three points, and also because Panetolikos have been one of the worst Super League teams this season away from home.
Iraklis vs Panetolikos: Tips
Iraklis’s win pays just 1.40, which makes sense, considering how indifferent Panetolikos are, and how hot/motivated the hosts have been for weeks now. To hope for something much better than just 1.40, I suggest an Iraklis win combined with a clean sheet. Panetolikos are pitiful away from home, both defensively and offensively, and I don’t expect them to… wake up now, at this stage of the season, with their players mentally already on vacation.
