Iran vs Lithuania
Competition: International friendly
Date: 8 June 2018
Kick-off: 17:00 CET
Iran struggled to find a team to play against after their friendly match versus Greece got canceled for… a whole bunch of reasons that had nothing to do with football. At some point, it looked like they would start their group campaign in the World Cup finals having played their last friendly game almost three whole weeks earlier (they lost 2-1 to Turkey on May 28), but thankfully for them, the Lithuanians were available. The biggest news that came out of their final 23-man list, is that Shojaei and Hajsafi were included. Why shouldn’t they? Because something less than a year ago they played with their former Greek club, Panionios, against a team from Israel, in the Europa League qualifiers. That didn’t go down well with the Iranian FA, who banned them, initially. After some months though, despite some persisting opposition back home, the two players were called-up, and made the final cut.
Lithuania have won just one of their last 12 games, both World Cup qualifiers and others, drawing in two, and losing the other nine. Not the kind of… momentum they would love to be building ahead of the UEFA Nations League games that start in September. These last ten days they lost 2-0 to Estonia and drew 1-1 with Latvia, two more results that show how Lithuania are still far from turning into a new… Iceland, a team that used to be below average since… ever, only to catapult themselves to unprecedented heights in a matter of a few years. The only good news that came from Lithuania lately, football-wise, is that it looks like they have reached a decision regarding the construction of a football-specific national stadium, something the country is in desperate need of.

Iran vs Lithuania: Prediction
The game is held in Russia, the Iranians are the first ones to arrive there, ahead of the finals. I’m backing them to win this game.
Iran vs Lithuania: Betting Tips
A simple Iran win pays just 1.66. For more than that, I would combine it with a clean sheet. If I left winners and losers aside, I would bet on “under 2.5 goals”, at 1.50, suiting my 1-0 or 2-0 hunch.
