Italy vs Ireland
Competition: Six Nations Rugby
Date: 11 February 2017
Kick-off: 15:25 CET
No doubt, Ireland would have seen Scotland and Italy as their first two games and though both of them would have been easy points, and probably even bonus points, but with Scotland upsetting that path, Ireland will now be a lot more wary of Italy who put Wales to the sword at least for a half.
Scotland put the first upset of the Six Nations up in the first game by beating Ireland, then France almost did the same against England, and when Italy were leading Wales at halftime many would have thought this was going to be a weekend full of upsets. Wales did eventually come back and beat the Italians, but what Italy did show was that they have enough skill and potential, it is just their endurance and focus, as well as potentially fitness are lacking. Now, when they face Ireland, they are up against a team that is full of stars, but also a little wounded and potentially vulnerable away from home.
Ireland were stunned in their first half against Scotland, playing some of their worst rugby for some time. The Scots capitalized and felt good at the break. But it did not take long to see the Irish fire burn bright again as they mounted a comeback, but all that come back did was spur Scotland on to take the lead again and then defend their way to a win. It was a damning result for a number of reasons, but mostly it exposed a lot of weaknesses in the Irish game, their attack was a bit toothless and their one on one defence also lacked a lot.
Italy vs Ireland: Head-to-Head Stats
Through the years, and even outside of the Six Nations, Ireland and Italy have played 26 times, and in those outings Italy have at least picked up four wins, with three of those being consecutive from 1995 to 1997 and the last Italian win coming in the Six Nations in 2013. Ireland have won 24 games.
Italy vs Ireland: Prediction
Really, Italy’s good first half against Wales was far more about how poor Wales were, and not really how good Italy were. The Italians will always have a good few periods in games, but really they do not look too much better than they have been before. Expect it to be a comfortable win for Ireland to bounce back on.
Italy vs Ireland: Tips
There has not been a try-scoring bonus point yet, but you can bet on this one to have the first for Ireland.
