Italy vs Wales
Competition: Six Nations
Date: 05 February 2017
Kick-off: 15:00 CET
This year’s Six Nations has the feel that it will be a closer contest between the best and worst teams, and with Italy usually being right near the bottom, this holds true for them as well. They have been improving under coach Conor O’Shea to the point where they beat the Springboks, and they will have Wales in their sights.
Wales have not had the best of times leading up to this tournament as they were really poor in the Autumn Internationals. They are the guidance of interim coach Rob Howley as Warren Gatland prepares for the lions tour of New Zealand, but the stand in has not impressed. He will have to do a lot more if Wales is to make a real charge at the Six Nations as the Welsh side has plenty of stars, they just need some guidance and cohesion. Players like George North, Leigh Halfpenny, Ken Owens, Alun Wyn Jones and Sam Warburton could stroll into almost any side in the competition.
For Italy, their biggest goals is always trying to at least win a game, or even two, in this grueling competition. There has been much more focus and care coming from the Italians as they lead up to this their first game, of course their win over the Springboks was a real high point. With the help of Brendan Venter and O’Shea’s influence, there is no reason why the Italians cannot do one better than last year, which in itself is not hard to do either as they could not win a single game in last year’s Six Nations.
Italy vs Wales: Previous Year’s Performance
Wales came in a creditable second in last year’s Six nations, only losing one game, but also drawing a game against Ireland. It was only England in their flawless run, that was too much for the Welsh side.
Italy, as to be expected, was beaten by every team as they failed to collect a single point. They only scored eight tries, but that was still one more than France.
Italy vs Wales: Prediction
Italy will probably put on a better performance than they would have done last year, but even with an improved game, they will still be no match to a Welsh side that is full of Super Stars. Except the Welsh to have to work hard to get going, but once the points start, they won;t stop as Wales run in some tries.
Italy vs Wales: Tips
This is a game that Wales will target for a new bonus point, and one that they should get easily So bet on the Wales scoring at least four tried – but probably a few more than that.
