Ivory Coast vs Algeria
Competition: Africa Cup of Nations
Date: 11 July 2019
Kick-off: 18:00 CET
As Ivory Coast’s coach Ibrahima Kamara put it, they “let the storm pass during the first half before they reorganised in the second”. That is how their round of 16 match against Mali went; Ivory Coast suffered and suffered in the first 45 minutes, in the first 60 actually, but they… persevered, and things changed in the latter stage of the match. Wilfried Zaha scored the only goal of the game in the 76th minute, earning his team a last 8 ticket. Did Ivory Coast really deserve it? At the end of the day, what matters the most in football, is sending the ball in. Mali had their chances, and missed them all. Zaha did what no Mali player managed, so… Ivory Coast are considered – by betting companies – outsiders in this match, but I doubt this takes any weight off their shoulders, as they know that folks back home expect more from them, not “just” a last 8 appearance.
As expected and predicted here, Algeria beat Guinea easily in the round of 16, taking the lead in the first half, and pretty much putting the game to bed in the 57th minute, with a second goal. Ounas’ third late in the match was just the… cherry on top. Djamel Belmadi’s team have now won all four matches they’ve played in the tournament, keeping a clean sheet in each and every one, scoring nine goals along the way. Before Wednesday’s matches, they were considered second biggest favorites to win the AFCON title, behind only Senegal, whom, though, they have already beaten in the group stage. As for Belmadi, he praised Ivory Coast, “reminding” everyone that their roster is full of players plying their trade in top leagues.

Ivory Coast vs Algeria: Prediction
Based on form, and seeing Algeria’s win pay 2.20, I’m super tempted to go with that.
Ivory Coast vs Algeria: Betting Tips
Algeria’s win, at 2.20, is my top choice. A somewhat more… timid approach would be betting on their double chance combined with “over 1.5”, at 2.02.
