Jagiellonia Bialystok vs Lechia Gdansk
Competition: Poland Ekstraklasa
Date: 20 July 2018
Kick-off: 20:30 CET
Second in regular season (behind Lech Poznan), second at the end of the Championship Round (behind Legia Warsaw), Jagiellonia Bialystok were left wondering back in May how different things would have been if they hadn’t dropped the ball in some theoretically “easy” games, that cost them crucial points. They have been very frugal during this transfer window, spending very little money, probably because they didn’t sell any of their best and most valuable players. The fact that their roster is pretty much the same (at least regarding the 13-14 players who played the most last season), may prove a good thing, as the players already know each other well. Detail: Jaga are hosting Portuguese side Rio Ave on Thursday, it will be the first leg of their UEFA Europa League 2nd qualifying round tie. It shouldn’t have any effect on this game, the Ekstraklasa opener, but it may next Sunday, when they visit Arka Gdynia.
Lechia Gdansk finished 14th last year in regular season, a single point above the relegation line. In the Relegation Round they slightly improved their position, and, most important of all, avoided the… humiliation of leaving the Ekstraklasa. The bigger difference in their roster compared to last season is that 33-year-old Portuguese center-forward Marco Paixão left for Altay (Turkey). He scored many and important goals for Lechia last season, and it remains to be seen how they will(?) manage to cover his gap. More players will need to contribute, and their mission doesn’t seem that easy, especially taking into consideration the fact that Lechia didn’t really sign a striker, a player who could fill Paixão’s shoes at least partly.

Two wins for Jagiellonia, two for Lechia, and a draw, in the last five games between these two in Bialystok.
Jagiellonia Bialystok vs Lechia Gdansk: Prediction
There is no doubt Jaga are a better team. They are playing at home, with a team that know each other well. Lechia, to me, look weaker than last season, at least on paper. I’m backing the hosts to win.
Jagiellonia Bialystok vs Lechia Gdansk: Betting Tips
Jagiellonia’s win is at 2.00, pushing their double chance down at just 1.25. I would stay with that 2.00, avoiding any special bets, mostly because it’s the first official game of the season for both teams.
