Jeonbuk Motors vs Beijing Guoan
Competition: AFC Champions League
Date: 6 March 2019
Kick-off: 11:00 CET
Jeonbuk Motors had spectacular ups and downs last season, but they still won the K League 1 title, earning at the same time a direct ticket to the AFC Champions League group stage. This is their 12th appearance in the competition. No team in the eastern region, among the 16 still active in the competition, have more experience than them in the Champions League. Last year they reached the quarterfinals. As previously mentioned, they had “spectacular” ups and downs. How “spectacular”? They lost 0-3 at home to Suwon Bluewings in the first leg of that quarterfinal tie, and then won 0-3 in Suwon(!!). They got eliminated though, losing on penalties. They finished the championship last season drawing in their last three games, and… guess what they did last Friday, on their debut in the new K League 1 campaign… Draw, 1-1, with Daegu, at home.
Beijing Guoan finished fourth last season in the Chinese Super League, not a position that comes with a Champions League ticket, but they won the FA Cup, earning at the same time a direct ticket to the AFC CL group stage. This is their 8th appearance in the competition. Back in 2015, last time they appeared, they won their first three group matches, finished the group stage on 11 points, qualified for the last 16, but there, they got eliminated by, ironically, the team they are facing this season on their group debut, Jeonbuk Motors. German Roger Schmidt remains their coach (he took over in July 2017). Brazilian central midfielder Renato Augusto is familiar to you if you’re following Brazilian and German football. He has played for Flamengo, Corinthians and Bayer Leverkusen. Centre-forward Cédric Bakambu made a name for himself at Villarreal, having playing for Sochaux and Bursaspor before that. Renato Augusto scored their only goal on Friday, in their 0-1 win at Wuhan Zall, on their CSL debut.

Jeonbuk have hosted Beijing Guoan once before, in 2015. That game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Jeonbuk Motors vs Beijing Guoan: Prediction
The hosts are considered clear favorites to win the game, but going against the odds, I’m counting on Beijing Guoan to leave Korea undefeated.
Jeonbuk Motors vs Beijing Guoan: Betting Tips
The visitors’ double chance is at 2.25, which I find satisfying enough not to look elsewhere for something – riskier – paying better.
