Juventus vs Real Madrid
Competition: UEFA Champions League
Date: 3 June 2017
Kick-off: 20:45 CET
Juventus have been impressive defensively throughout their Champions League campaign this season, they have conceded just three goals in 12 matches, one in their last eight(!), at home, to Monaco, while the score was already at 2-0, in the return leg of their 2-0 win at their opponents’ home. Exactly because they are so impressive defensively, people tend to overlook how productive offensively they’ve been as well. They scored four goals against Monaco, three versus Barcelona in a single game, three against Porto, even three at Sevilla back in November, when the Spanish side was still doing great, before… dropping the ball in the second half of the season. One thing Juventus have going against them, is their record in finals. They have won the biggest football trophy in Europe (at club club) twice, but they have lost in six other finals.
While it’s… common for Juventus to win the championship title in Italy, Real Madrid had to wait for five long years to lift the trophy of Spain’s La Liga. They had to… suffer until the last day of the season, but they beat Malaga 2-0 two weeks ago, and left Barcelona second. After that, Zinedine Zidane gave his players a short break, so as to release some tension. Unlike Juventus, Madrid’s force this season has been scoring, and scoring a lot. They have been the most productive offensively team in the competition, scoring at least two goals in every single game, excluding the return leg of their semifinal against Atletico Madrid, which was also their only defeat in this season’s CL (2-1). Again, unlike Juventus who have won just two of their eight finals, Madrid have a brilliant record of 11 wins in 14 appearances in world football’s most important game of the season (at club level).
Juventus vs Real Madrid: Head-to-head Stats
Juventus and Real Madrid have faced each other a total of 18 times before, and there there is absolute balance between them, with each team having won eight games (two have ended in a draw). Interestingly, Real Madrid have won both games that were held at a neutral venue. In 1962 they had to play a third game, in times when extra time did not exist. More recently, in 1998, Madrid beat Juventus 1-0 in the only time these two have met before in a Champions League final.
Juventus vs Real Madrid: Prediction
Real Madrid are considered slight favorites to win the trophy. Personally, I expect Juventus to look even more motivated than Cristiano Ronaldo and Co, and to end up winners. They have faced goal-scoring machines before this season, Monaco, Barcelona, and they were awesome defensively. That, combined with clinical finishes, have given them huge wins, and I expect them to deliver once again, and win their biggest title since 1996.
Juventus vs Real Madrid: Tips
Juventus to win the title pays 1.95. Risking to be left embarrassed once the game is over, I admit that I trust them that much, as to back them to win without extra time and penalties. This pays 3.00.
