Kashima Antlers vs Suwon Bluewings
Competition: AFC Champions League
Date: 17 April 2018
Kick-off: 12:00 CET
Kashima Antlers came very close to getting into serious trouble two weeks ago, when they visited Shanghai Shenhua. Come 28th minute, they were 2-0 down. They came back in the second half, drew 2-2, and that point secured them even mathematically a spot in the last 16 of the competition. They will finish first if they beat Suwon, also if they draw, and second if they lose this game. After back-to-back defeats in Japan’s championship, they bounced back on Saturday, beating Nagoya Grampus 2-0 at home. Actually, before that game, they had just one win in their last seven matches in all competitions. They are no higher than 8th in the table, very low, on 11 points from eight matches.
A shock, no doubt… Home humiliation by Sydney FC, heavy 1-4 defeat two weeks ago, meaning that if Suwon Bluewings finish level on points with the A-League side, they will be left third, and it’s Sydney who will qualify (they had beaten them 2-0 in Australia, earlier in the group stage). It’s… hard to explain what happened to Suwon two weeks ago. They had everything going for them, absolutely everything, the least they could do was draw, but… This game kick-offs the same time as the other group match does, the one between Sydney and Shanghai Shenhua. The moment Suwon hear that Sydney took the lead, they’ll need to push much harder. If Sydney win and Suwon simply draw, the Bluewings are out. They picked up seven points from their three K-League games after that humiliation by Sydney, and are now second in the table, four points behind leaders Jeonbuk Motors.

Kashima Antlers vs Suwon Bluewings: Head to head Stats
Kashima have hosted Suwon twice before. They beat them 3-0 in 2009, and drew 1-1 in 2011.
Kashima Antlers vs Suwon Bluewings: Prediction
Kashima have a much smaller motive than Suwon, but… depends also on what will be happening simultaneously in Sydney. If Shanghai Shenhua somehow take the lead there, then Suwon will feel much more relaxed. If it’s Sydney who take the lead, Suwon will be with their back against the wall.
Kashima Antlers vs Suwon Bluewings: Betting Tips
Personally, I would leave this game aside. It’s just too tricky, because Suwon’s attitude depends up to a point on how things will be going the same time in Sydney. If I absolutely had to bet on something in this game, I would go for Suwon’s double chance, at 1.62, and their win in “draw no bet” (2.20).
